Default Front Speaker Install

Since I had installed new door speakers I thought I would show some pictures to help other members know what is involved.

Tools used:

Required:
# 2 Phillips head screwdriver
T-30 Torx
T-15 Torx
7mm ratchet

Optional:
Door panel removal tool
Small pick (90 degrees)

Start by removing 1 Phillips head screw in the Sail panel.

Next remove 1 Phillips head screw from behind the door handle.

Pull out at the front of door handle panel and slide forward.

This reveals the rear of the power lock button(if so equipped) use small pick to aid in unclipping from panel.

Next Remove 2 Torx T-30 screws from underneath and behind the door pull handle.

Now pry the door panel away from 9 clips and lift up to reveal the door.

Also use small pic to remove the window switch and the power mirror pad.

Here is a picture of the back of the panel to see where the clips are.

Remove 3 7mm screw holding in speaker bracket and pry lose.

Use small pick to undo speaker harness.

Car side of harness.

Now Remove 4 T-15 screw holding in the woofer.

I had cut the stock speakers off the harness making a tail for the new ones.
Also remove 1 Phillips screw holding stock tweeter in.

Next I drilled and Filed the stock tweeter mount.

Installed new tweeter mount.

And new tweeter.

Followed by new 6 1/2 woofers.

Here is the back of the speaker cup.

Red Tweeter +
Black Tweeter -
Blue woofer + (Light Green, Gray)
White woofer - (Dark Green, Tan)

Woofer wiring is according to Crutchfield tech. Colors in parenthesis are car side harness colors (passenger side, Driver side).

Since I am using a component system with a crossover I tried several ways to wire it.

The way I liked the sound best was to wire the woofer directly and use the tweeter feed threw the crossover for the new tweeter.

Crutchfield recommended using the woofer feed threw the crossover and then feeding the tweeter and woofer from it. It sounded really flat like that.

Picture of the crossover with the window down.

New speakers installed.

Door panel reinstalled.

They are Infinity Kappa components (60.7). I am upgrading the stock speakers to get a little more voice out of them for when I eventually put a subwoofer in. I've been resisting changing the stock stereo as I live in New York City and park my car on the street.
