Car show season is about on us and I see my trunk as unfinished. So figured I may as well spend a few hours and do something constructive while it's wet and cold.

The mat is not yet complete but I thought I would show you the start of it. I had a CAD drawing done for the mat and have had 20 of these made up. Thought perhaps some other members may want to fabricate their own. So I will be listing them for sale. You could really come up with your own ideas and bring them to life, based on your particular Monte's theme. Least this will provide a proper foundation to start from.

1.5 lb foam board computer cut to fit 6th / 7th gen trunk lid


Fabric I'm using for the back ground is a red crushed velvet


Designed a Chevy Bowtie


Rough styrofoam cutout of Bowtie. Had some CAD ones designed and computer cut.


Stretchable black silver fabric going to clad Bowtie with it. Will put it on the panel about upper center.


That's about it so far, will work on things for my theme. going to do some crossed checker flags and perhaps a lazer etched aluminum panel that says Team Monte Carlo or some Chevy type slogan.

Will post additional details as this develops.

I'm actually selling the foam blanks on a listing here on the forum. Had a limited number CNC hot wire cut out of 2lb foam. $40 with free shipping. Will throw in the chevy bowties at no charge if you want them.

 

i do black fabric, it stand out more plus it match up with the rest of the trims. just my .02 cents
my old trunk mat. little different taste lol.

 

Zippy, I'm interested, but how will I mount the trunk lid mat?

 

I had bought a lid liner before and it came with a peel and stick velcro mounting system. The problem that I read others had to include me was on really hot days the adhesive would relase and the liner would detach and be laying on my trunk floor when I opened my trunk. So I sold it off.

My new idea was to strategically epoxy a series of 9 magnets (3 sets double stacked) 3 sets single stack to the reverse of the panel and then let it attach to the trunk in that manner. I have did a crude mock up with some metal backed disc magnets from Home depot and it has worked well.The epoxy is holding like a pro. I might further take some thin pieces of metal and contact cement them to the reverse of the panel and then epoxy the magnetic discs to them. My car is in the shop right now and I will take photos of it when it returns in about 2 weeks. But I think this method is hands down better than the velcro, almost have to pry the panel away from the trunk, lol

 

I would probably try the Velcro before anything to be honest. Then if it doesn't work, I would take the magnetic approach.
