I need to get a new radio for my car. I thought i remember reading that not all radios of the same look will be compatable with my car. Specifically the truck radios. I'm aware of the whole theftlock feature. But would any radio that looks the same work properly?

Oh you're not going aftermarket are you? Mike should be correct though. If the plugs are the same it should work. 5th gen Monte's are cake to do aftermarket radio installs on. It's just like the 4th gen Camaros. I've done a ton of those installs and it's exceedingly easy. With your knowledge of electronics you should be alright, assuming your knowledge of wiring is at the same level as that of computers.

If your talking another oem stereo then it would need to be reprogrammed at the dealer.

Yes as crazy as it is i want to remain at a factory radio, i just need a new one. My cd player is shot and alot of the lights are out. As long as theftlock is disabled it wont need to be re programed at the dealer

I'll do a bit more research but if any radio of the same era should fit i can get a nice factory refurbished one for a truck off ebay. I prefer the factory look and i want a cassete player so i can get an adapter for my ipod.
