Get a radio with enough outputs and inputs to suit your needs, ie: enough outputs for the amps you're going to install (my unit has 3). Take into account the low level current output of the head unit as well, the higher the better since that's the signal that will feed your amps; if you're going to add an ipod/zune, dvd, game console, etc; whether you're going to want add blue tooth, wi-fi, 5.1 channels for an in-car cinema system. You can find great deals on line if you just take your time and look around. Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood and Clarion make good units. I'm partial to pioneer!

hey, sorry for the late response for your PM. I dont check this too much anymore since I have a different car.

your stereo is the brain of your car audio. if you skimp on that, your going to sound like crap no matter what else you do. What are you going to be using it for? what do you want to have for a sound set-up a year from now? are you looking at subs/amps to also put in (now, or later?) all these things are nice to know when choosing, so you can pick amps with decent outputs for your needs.

well, the more expensive ones keep your door chimes and will allow the car to safely deploy its airbags for lower speed crashes (if i remember correct).

you can find the cheap ones, but it requires hacking up your stock harness to adapt to it.
