well im running my speakers off my stock deck and the quality is fine but my subs over pwer my speakers so im going to have to get a new deck with a amp for the speakers soon i woulnt recomind running speakers off deck and subs that hit that hard unless your planning on getting an amp for the speakers or a new deck
I know where your coming from big green. I had the same setup in my mazda miata. granted there are only like...2 speakers in the whole damn car, i had one 10" Eclipse and it pretty much drowned everything else out. But with this setup, i replaced all my stock speakers with infinitys and i have a pioneer deck with MOSFET 50x4 and 12" Kicker Solo-Baric L7s with a 1200 watt Memphis Audio. and it balances pretty well, the extremely insanely horribly loud subs dont drown out my infinitys. I like my current setup, i think if I amped the components, it would bring me back to where i was before, not enough bass for me. but different people like different stuff.

There aren't very many decks out there that have to be externally powered, but the install is pretty much the same except you have to hook up an external amp in the process, which takes longer of course. So I wouldn't say it's harder, just more time consuming.

ok i have to ask how are you guys hooking in Subs with stock system?

I have got the stcok amp and would not mind leaving it in place for the highs and mids. for right now I also have a pioneer deck but it is being shipped to me and i think it was a moffet of like 40x2. So im not to worried about all of that right now just looking to have a way to hook in the subs i just bought to the stock amp or deck so tha ti can hear them working till it gets here and also the amp that is comming is a 1000 wat kicker amp.
the subs are 10" cruches right now plans are for somethign diffrent but i could not pass the deal up on these with the box 60.00 used. and they still look and the box looks new.
So i jumped on them to get some sound in my car. Right nwo the speackers are bone stock in it till i can get some orderd.

eventually it will be all infinties or i might go with the kicker SS series but havent decided to go that far with it yet.

Also how are you running the amp wires to the back of the car?
figure while im at it i will add the wireing in to the car so it is there when the rest gets here.

Also SS you stated you had the componets in the front.
How are they mounted? just the factory spots? or did you cut the holes for your highs in the dash some where?

Need to make it look nice and this is part of why i haven t done it yet is trying to figure out where to put the highs Dont know if they will fit the stock locations and still ahve the sound imaging.

Im not going for the base thump as much as i am the clarity . Tend to like the concert hall sound with a bit more base in the car then most. But at the same time i still listen to some rap and R&B and Club Dance type music. So i need to figure out what will sound best for this,

last car was easy i didnt care where every thign went i knew i was going to have to build the intereior out of glass or some thing like it LOL
Thsi one is a biut tuffer tryign to keep it looing stock but still sound good.

To hook up subs while keeping the factory head unit, you'd have to get a high to low converter. You could theoretically use the factory amp as well, but if you're hooking up subs, chances are you actually want to hear them so I'd be willing to bet that eveyrone hooking up subs is using a separate amp for them. I wouldn't suggest running subs off the stock amp for a couple reasons, first thing is that you're gonna make that amp work way harder than it was ever intended on working, secondly, you'll severely underpower your subs and possibly damage them in the process.

Running the wires is the most tedious part of the install. Since the battery is on the passenger side of the car, you should run the power lead and the remote lead along the passenger side of the car all the way back to the amp. You don't want your power leads and signal leads(speaker wire and rca's) to cross each other's path's as that can introduce interference into the system. Run the signal leads along the drivers side of the car all the way back to the amp. You can either run the wires under the kick panels, carpet and rear seat back to the amp, or under the center console, carpet and rear seat. Just make sure the power leads are kept away from the signal leads.

Since your focus is more on SQ than SPL, I hope your sub box is sealed.

that was another thing i was goign to ask about seald or not seald.

Right now it is vented. but that can be changed rather easily. I can make another box this i have done in the past a few times for the mini trucks.
And can find the MDF easy enough even here LOL

this type of thing is somethign i can do it is figureing out what to put in to it that i never figured out real well.
as they just brang it back to us and said get it in to place. and what they wanted for it we were basicaly monkeys following orders other then how to build the stuff.
Sux wish i had done more of the sales so i would know some more about it then i do. But now i dont have the time to figure it out LOL hine sight i guess

Sealed will give you a more controlled, tighter bass response. It will still hit hard, but a ported box will be louder.

With technology getting better and better, there are subs that hit just as clean in a ported box as subs do in a sealed box. But in general, sealed do hit cleaner than ported. A huge part of this is the amp and how well it can control the cone movement, there is a measurement for this called dampening factor. The higher the number, the more control the amp has over cone movement.

I don't know what your budget is like, but ARC Audio is very good stuff. JL Audio amps are pretty good, the Alpine V12 line is good, as are the JBL PowerValve series and MTX.
