Alpine type r 8 inch sub?
Has anyone ever had one of these? I might be able to get one for a 100$. They come with their own box and are rated at 350w rms and 1000watt peak. I wanted something that wouldnt take up too much space in the trunk and this is perfect. Its The Alpine SBR-S83v.

You can get brand new ones on ebay all day long for 100$ too.. But as far as alpine goes.. Alpine is a great company! A little pricey on some of their stuff but you do pay for good quality and sound.. I have never had an 8 but i had two type r 12s and they took a beating all day.. And still are in a friends car to this day.. In my oppinion.. Whenever i stop competing i will probably have an alpine system!
Go for it!

The size of the sub won't make much of a difference in how loud it is. It's all about how much power you're putting to them. I have a 10" Type R with a 500W RMS amp and it's more than loud enough (for me).
It depends on what kind of music you listen to, if you're a rocker you'll love that 8". It'll give you solid double bass thump without much distortion. For newer electronic music or rap you'll want 12" minimum. (In general) the bigger the woofer, the lower frequency it will pick up, and it'll resonate more.
Back on topic; I've heard 2 8's pound harder than 2 12's, it's all about what kind of sound you're looking for.

A 10" would do you good. You'll want to make sure the box is at least big enough for the woofer to function properly. All subs have factory recommended enclosure sizes, and they're all different.
I have my Alpine Type R 10" in its' recommended box and it only takes up maybe 1/4 of my trunk. there's still plenty of room in front of and next to it.
In general the smaller the box, the less bass you can expect from it. So you just have to decide whether you want trunk room or booming bass.

A 10" will be louder than the 8" and a 12" louder than a 10" with the recommended wattage and box.
I would recommend a 10" in a sealed box if you're listening to rock. I wouldn't try to keep the box small, don't 'choke' the sub.
