Default 7th gen stereo into a 6th gen?

My cd player just died in my OEM deck, a cd was jammed... was gentle with a screwdriver. Just kinda nudged it around so the motor could grab it. Worked, but when I put in a new cd, the deck made a 3 second grinding noise and spit out the cd. Now it won't grab cds anymore. I can push a cd in and nothing happens...The ejection mechanism still works fine. Is it possible that the brains think a cd is still inside? Would disconnecting the battery for a while fix the problem? I doubt it. Anyway, I was wondering if it's possible to put a 7th gen OEM stereo into my 2005... are the connections the same? I'm not sure what they changed for the 7th gen, but maybe they left that stuff remain the same. I'd like to be able to play mp3s and I heard it was an option on the 7th gen stereos.

Way different, I think there are GM units of that era that played MP3s.

6th gen head units have modes to do things that are are on the DIC 7th gens.
6th gen units are theft protect activated/deactivated by that system of punching buttons on the unit, 7th gens are hard coded to the car's computer system and need to be programmed with a GM Tech something tool.

I would just get an after market radio. That way you can use all kinds of different ways to play music.

Like barovelli said, big differences, plus i'm not sure if it would even fit. Better off with an aftermarket radio.

Took me a day to remember, but it was a Pontiac Monsoon radio that played mp3 discs. Wanted one for the '95 Firebird.
