The stock stereo in the LTZ is nice, but doesnt get 'jam-out' loud. More importantly, it flows and looks very nice in the dash.
What kind of head units you you guys like that are large enough to fit, and will still keep the SiriusXM capability?

if you have the same system as the ss then it would sound much better to change out the speakers. as i did some research and i found that the onstar, steering wheel controls, and something else is linked to it. there is a harness but its alot of work to get it to look good.
i have compared my sounds with that of a full out system my buddy has and mynes clearer, about the same loudness, and my subs bounce harder. the speakers i replaced with boston acoustics and infinity kappa tweeters. they do make a huge difference.
if you go that route watch out for your mirror control plugs on the door panel. not the easiest to work with. there is a little clip in the back of it thats impossible to get to.
good luck

i was told the same thing about the onstar, etc. I feel like GM did this on purpose just so people would be turned off by swapping head units, which sux because i've had a system in everycar and now all i can do is replace the speakers, after i get tires and my rims on of course.

I will take a picture of my deck in my car for you guys,
You can either get a new single din stereo deck
or you can get a double din deck that has touchscreen or navigation or a little fancier than a single din deck
either way they will both look good in th new monte.
The harness you need is at www.crutchfield.com and I believe they have the best price. Also you can get the remote controls on your steering wheel to work with a new deck, the harness for the steering wheel is like 50-75 dollars and install for that piece is 50 bucks, I decided to save the money on replacing the steering wheel controls andI got a kenwood deck with its own remote conrol. I have usb through my glove box. Install on a deck is like 50-100 bucks.
go to www.onlinecarstereo.com for speakers or a deck
you also need an antenna adapter for the new deck wich is like 10 dollars.
I had my local best buy install my deck, I bought all my stuff online with no tax and free shipping and paid like 145 dollars for everything installed, they game me the stereo install kit so your new deck looks like its stock.
I paid 150 for 6.5 door speakers and 6x9 3 way speakers that are infinty refrences.
I will post pics soon for you of a double din player and of my single din deck

This is how my head unit looks on my 03 ss. It is still the DD dash size. I have not purchased the steering wheel adapter yet but like mavrickf1613 it has a remote. I did purchase the wiring harness off ebay that was like 50 bucks, it bypasses the onstar and the factory bose ect... I have the Alpine CDA 9886. I got the DD adapter kit to make a Single D fit on Amazon.com for like 15 bucks

I plan on going with a double din when I do mine, how well to the steering wheel controls work with the aftermarket deck and the right harness anyone? So far I've been thinking Alpine W505, but with my plans of tossing all my cash this summer towards a Camaro the new headunit might not happen.
