Default 2000 SS stock amp questions

New here GREAT FORUM!! could someone please answer..
1-does stock amp power both front and rear stock spks?
2- what is the power rating of the stock amp ?
3- ive searched and all info on here indicates i shoulod have 2 ohm spks but the stock 6x9 in rear are stamped 4 ohm. does the stock amp in a 2000 use 2 ohm or 4 ohm ?
4- if i install a pioneer hu should i still use the factory amp or bypass factory amp and use only pioneer hu to drive all 4 speakers.
im not looking to rattle my teeth, just best possible sound with the above mentioned options.
Any help appreciated..

The stock Amps are rated at 200Watts peak power (280watts for the Premium Bose system). It supplies power to all "6" speakers. Two 6x9 rear deck, two 6 1/2 door and two tweeters in the doors as well. The front speakers are 2 ohm and the 6x9's in the rear are 4 ohm. However the front door 6 1/2's and tweeters are on the same wiring. Why its in that configuration, I do not know. Have to ask GM about that one.

I just recently installed a Sony H.U. in my 02 SS. The wiring harness I bought was this one http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...-+GM09SRB.html

thanks for the quick reply. No its not Boss system.
Do you think i would gain any noticable sound quality by replacing the factory head unit with my poineer 4000 and running it into the stock amp.
I know i would have an issue with the chime stuff and steering wheel controls but it my son's car and he wants his " pioneer".

I have the factory amp and the 6x9s say 2ohm in the trunk. Can I use 4ohm speakers, seems a lot of conflicting information.

It all could depend on what sound system is in the vehicle (or for GMs case, which ever was in the spare parts bin). My 02 SS with Bose and Onstar had 4ohm 6x9"s in the rear. I replaced them with Pioneer 4ohm 3-way 260watt max power 6X9"s and they sound 50x better then the stock speakers did.

Are the models with 4ohm speakers and 2ohm speakers using the same amp?

i would go with a different pioneer model hu then. get one that has the steering wheel controls. and the pioneer will put out 50w per 4 channels(most do) so if the amp is 200 peak that isnt going to be 200 rms. I dont think there will be a significant gain from a HU or if you continued to run the amp. so it really up to you. i would just run it through the amp honestly. less work same results. if loudness is an issue replace amp and speakers. HU wont do much by its self. jw what are you going to do to reset the low tire pressure and engine oil indicator whn they light up if you replace stock HU. thats the only thing holding me back from putting the alpine from my truck in my monte.

actually after double checking the rms for most pioneer decks is 22 watts not 50. sorry. so i would still continue to run the stock amp. and as for the ohm question im unsure. good luck.

Then you can do the work-arounds for said things. Such as pushing the gas pedal in 3 times with the car turned to on, or pulling and pushing in the lights switch 3-5 times (i'm not sure that method because I don't use it)
