Default '06 Radio problem

I have an '06 that I bought used recently where I'll be driving and the radio volume will just go up. It probably happens a few times a week and is annoying and scares the crap out of me when it happens. The volume bar doesn't change, just the actual volume. I turn it down and it goes away. I've had it happen using the radio and a CD. Has anyone had a problem like this? I know little about radios. Should I take it to a dealer or an audio place? Can it even be fixed or would it have to be replaced?

Does your radio have the auto volume? IDK if any of the 06 radios came with it, but its worth checking into. My mom's 2000 Pontiac's radio has an auto volume feature, where it automatically increases the volume depending on how fast you are driving, and how you accelerate. We don't use the feature, but if you have it, and its turned on, that could be your problem.

My 2000 Monte had it. That's not the problem though. It goes to blasting not just a little louder.

That's not what it is. I've gotten it just driving in town, doesn't have to be on the highway. Has nothing to do with accelerating.
No warranty for it.

Well, if your positive that the automatic volume control is not the problem, the only thing I can think of would be the radio itself.

You are not expericening any other electrical type problems are? If not, I would say its got to be the radio.

Try turning the auto volume feature completly off and see if that corrects the problem. If it does, at least you can stop the sound. If it does not, you may have to think about having it serviced.

Sometimes my Dad's radio just starts changing channels on its own while he's driving. Like he'll be listening to 103.7 and all of a sudden it turns to 103.9...

We can't figure out the problem at all. I assume it's an electrical thing? Maybe you have the same problem!! haha

I have the auto volume feature off.
I haven't noticed any other electrical problems.
Hopefully a dealer can figure out what it is without replacing it.
