Default ZZP Downpipe

Hello wonderful forum!

I was debating whether or not to get the ZZP Downpipe. http://zzperformance.com/grand_prix/...=551&catid=110 I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS and I was wondering what options to get to make it perform best. I have NO idea what any of the five options mean.

Right now, my MC is completely stock, but I plan to get a Wizaired CAI. If I do end up getting this downpipe, I would put them on at the same time. I'm not sure if that matters, but I figured I'd include it incase it does.

Also, the only thing I have to raise my car is a couple of ramps that I use to change my oil. I was wondering if that would raise it up enough. If not, what would?

Also, I've never installed anything mechanical on any car. Is it hard to install a downpipe?

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Tyler

Since your car is N/A you would only need the 2.5 inch pipe. It's your decision whether to get a cat or not, stainless steel or not. You might have trouble getting off the old bolts from the original pipe. I just took mine to a shop to get installed. You also might want to think about getting the reprogrammed PCM because most likely you will throw a code P0240 and they can permanently remove that code.

What is the difference in the sizes? What does a catalytic converter do? What about option 2 and option 3?

Thanks!

Option 2 is only if you get the off road pipe - I can't remember but I don't think options 2 pertains to our application. I would get gaskets in Option 3. You have to remember that ZZP refers to Grand Prixs a lot. Our Montes are closely related to the 97-2003 GPs. 2004 & up ignore cause they are using the newer series engine.

Why do you want a new down pipe? It would be pretty difficult to do laying on your back even if you are experienced. I agree with Awesome SS take it to the shop, save time and alot of cussing and still end up taking it to the shop after you have a melt down. But again why the down pipe unless your trying to move alot of air at a level where you can benefit performance wise, other wise I bet you don't even notice it. For relatively cheap HP, do cold air intake so the motor can breathe easier and a cat back exhaust with a larger than factory size, perhaps go to a 2.5" system. These changes will bring about a more lively response from your car as you now have a set up designed to move air more efficiently. Also you can e-mail ZZP tech support and feel them out, they are always fast to respond and help you. Good luck on your mods, they are always so much fun!! (Not!)

You can also get a u-bend delete and that will help your car breath better.

Get headers, better investment but youll most likely have to get them installed somewhere.

Yep, i agree with Brock.
Look into the inexpensive Speed Daddy headers on ebay. (Though you may look into getting them ceramic coating/ high temp paint to help against rust in the long run.)

SSAC, they look great, are cheap, and have less of a dip in the downpipe. You think the SSAC and speed daddys are the same but the speed daddys almost touch the ground.

First of all, thanks for all the help!

So I plan on getting the Wizaired CAI anyway. I looked at the U-Bend Delete and that's fairly inexpensive for what it does. I also saw a Magnaflow Catalytic Converter for only $60. Is it better to get the CAI, converters, and the delete, or the CAI and the downpipe?

I took a look at the headers and those look WAY to serious for me (for now).

Thanks for helping me! aha I'm really new at this whole engine performance enhancement thing so you guys have no idea how awesome you've been thus far.

Thanks,
Tyler
