what do you look for in a good exhaust system?
hey guys i was just wondering what draws you to different exhaust systems/mufflers? is it the sound, or the look, or the performance/fuel economy?
mainly do you guys prefer your car to have a strong rumble, or would you rather it be a sleeper? i know i am keeping my car as quiet and humanly possible... i love when guys in six cylinder mustangs come and rev at me with their flowmasters... it makes me smile... lol
so post your favorite brand make/model whatever.. stories etc...
thanks!

I like a nice rumble and good sound under acceleration. Nothing too loud and obnoxious. I also like a clean looking system, no hackjob and I really dislike rusty exhaust (tho my mufflers are a little rusty). Performance for me is a plus but I accept the fact that an exhaust will only give to limited performance gains so I would take a good sounding system that doesnt add hp over an ugly system that gives you a few extra.

I like a rumble, nothing too loud, but loud enough to sound cool. I like the sound of the Dynomax system on my 03 (turbo mufflers) a little better than the SLP (but it might not be broken in yet). The SLP system dosn't have a resonator so it is louder in the cabin, which I don't mind. I'd rather listen to a cool exhaust than the radio anyday LOL!

I like my car silent. Its hilarious when some kid with a fart can revs up, makes tons of noise, then get his doors blown of by something he can't hear.
I still run stock exhaust with the ubend deleted and a powerlog. I even kept the resonator (though the guy at the exhaust some wanted to delete it). Think stealth. The only thing you hear is the supercharger screaming.
The other thing is the heat. Lets face it - this car is a heat score. Its debatebly illegal. I have been pulled over and had to lift the hood. The cops around here know this car and leave me alone now (because everybody is a Jr fan). As long as it sounds stock, they will let me be - that's the theory anyway.

I used to be all about loud and cheap back when I was rocking the 3100 in my monte as my daily driver. I deleted the res, and put on a glasspack in place of the stock muffler (left the stock piping since it wouldn't help performance anyways). The thing sounded great- it had a nice rumble at idle, and wasn't too bad on the highway.
However, I started going to the track (ran a best of a 16.7)- and it was kindof embarassing to lose to get destroyed by cars running 12s, 13s, etc with either stock exhaust or extremely quiet exhaust. Then all F&F came out, and all the ricers started putting fart cans on their hondas and screaming around in their 16, 17, 18 second cars- and I kinda felt ricey. Also, I started getting tired of having to frequently replace the tip, muffler, and piping (since I bought all cheap stuff- it was mild steel and would rust through).
When I got my impala, and gp- I left stock exhaust on both of them; and when I did the L67 swap in my monte, we stuck on about 5 or 6 different aftermarket mufflers at the exhaust shop to see which was the quietest (I had been running open downpipe for a couple months, and was sick of it).
Now, for me- for my daily drivers, I'm going to leave them with stock mufflers, and stock exhaust. Its cheaper, and I don't look goofy driving around in a loud, slow car again. When I do finally get around to doing the monte's exhaust again- I'm going to get a resonator- and a couple mufflers to make it as quiet/mild as possible with a cutout up front for when I want it to be crazy loud- but this thim it will be all stainless so I don't have to keep worrying about rust.
