Default Welding Help???

Hey guys, instead of bringing my car to a shop to have the mufflers welded in, I was thinking of doing it myself. I have em clamped right now, but there are clear minor leaks. I have a full exhaust and there are several spots other than the mufflers that need to be welded. Anyone reccomend a cheap welder? What type of welder do I need? How much would bringing it to a shop cost vs buying welder (i have a mask and gloves already).
Thanks

to be honest with you, any good welder that is worth your money will cost between 150-300. and that is the lower grades. It might be alot cheaper for you to pay the 50-70 bucks and have ur local guy just weld them in real quick.

yeah local fellers charge usually 25 per muffler to weld in place. as far as buying a welder unless you plan to use it alot theres no sense in putting all the money neded into a good enough welder to do the job right

One other thing to consider, most shops have a hydraulic lift that brings it up to welding height (5-6'). If you try to weld just under the car with a few little jacks, those pipes will get super heated, and there is a chance for 2nd degree burns, easily. My friend that owns a meineke had an employee have to go to the hospital because he didnt raise the jack up enough for adequate ventilation and cooling.

Just a little safety tip. I personally would save urself the aggrevation and pay the dude to do it for you.
