Well, alright then. I won't feel like I'm "skimping" on my choice at all if I go with the Summit brand mufflers. Thank you for searching for that info.

Well Professor Overdrive (AKA AJ) finally got back to me over the weekend and here is his response:

Hello,

The SUM-63221 is a reversible muffler that will sound more like a turbo muffler.

The SUM-638221 is also a chambered muffler but is not reversible and will sound more like a Flowmaster.

Both will give you good power and the same increase on the same motor.

Thanks for the e-mail.

AJ
I have officially chosen the Summit Race mufflers (SUM-638221) and I will be using Dynomax Performance Butt-joint Band clamps ($8.95) in conjunction with them to connect everything. My tip of choice is a Magnaflow 4" tip.

Thanks for all of your help everyone!

Very cool Rick. I wouldn't know which muffler to go with when I replace my Dynomax mufflers on my 03. The one's on there now are like the 1st one you listed - a turbo muffler. I really do like the sound but I wonder if I should go louder and pick the 2nd one (like flowmaster). Pick up some exhaust paint and spray the mufflers before you install them - they will hold up well if you do.

I was definitely considering getting some flat black, high temp paint for them before they are installed. Or perhaps once the hangers are welded on, then paint them before they're installed. IDK. I have a little time to think about, but at least I know for sure what I'm going with.

Just a quick addition to this thread. Even though this is not from a Monte Carlo, it is a video of a HEMI powered Dodge Ram truck testing both a Magnaflow muffler and a Summit Race muffler.

It also helped me decide on my final choice. Thanks again!

4 inch tip = perfect!

I always heed Bumpin's (chad's) advice... bought stainless magnaflows on my 98. Even though I'm selling the car, I wouldn't have done it any other way.

So I'm looking at buying everything today. I want to be 100% on this before placing the order. I need Offset IN/Center OUT mufflers, correct? Thank you!

Well everything is purchased and the mufflers will be at my door today and tips tomorrow. I should be going this Saturday to get everything installed. I'm actually going the welded route instead of using the clamps. I called 3 different shops and they all quoted me $120 for installation. Does that sound reasonable to cut out the old stuff and weld in the new? Thanks!

Are you willing to pay $120 to get it done?

Then it's reasonable. Just because some person can get it done for $100 or $89 doesn't mean you getting it done for $120 is bad. If you are willing to pay to get it done, and the person you are going to is trustworthy then it's worth it.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts.
