Default stupid intake question

i was recently told by someone that an intake may be bad for a car being that to much air gets into the engine and you need a chip to regulate that.

true?

You friend needs a swift slap in the face. All an intake does is free up the useable air. Its not going to use any more air than the car can suck in, so im pretty sure its only helping it. Alot.

They don't understand how our engines work then.

You have a mass airflow sensor that measures the amount of air entering the engine. It gives an appropriate amount of fuel for the air entering. Make it easier for the engine to breathe, more air comes in- the MAF reads more air coming in and adds the right amount of extra fuel- and you make more power. Thats really dumbed down, but thats how it works...

Your car is about 1000000x smarter than your friend.

If it hurt, we all wouldn't have them / recommend them as one of the first things to do.
