Stock Intake vs. CAI

Stock Intake vs. CAI
Good evening all... Quick question about intakes... Will a CAI unit perform $300.00 better than our 6th generation stock intakes with a K&N filter installed?... The reason I ask is that although a CAI unit looks fantastic, is it worth the extra money and will you get an exceptional gain in HP over the stock unit with a K&N?... Also, are our stock units not already a cold air intake?... Just wondering if the money could be used on other mods if the big gains aren't there... Thanks,

Another reason I ask is that after closer inpection, our stock intakes overall surface size (utilizing a K&N filter) is not any smaller than the surface area of a cone... Also, the length and angle of the connecting tube is short & gently bent... The cold air is collected behind the headlight with a fair sized entrance point... I've also noticed a reasonable increase in performance and sound level with utilizing the K&N... Am I missing something here?... Thanks,

If you are looking at the K&N FIPK, that isn't a CAI kit. That's really just a hot air kit. I have it myself and I hate it. If you want to look for a good kit, go to zzperformance.com and look for the wizaired kit.
They do work pretty good because they let more air in than the stock system, and it will be louder, but you can just make your own very easily, just make sure it doesn't allow any of the hot air from the engine to the cone.

They are nice to have, they CAN help with MPGs (not much) and they will make your engine sound a lot meaner.
It was the first thing I did to my car, and it is fun to have.
If you think the price is too steep, then you'll probably be disappointed. A ZZP downpipe would be a better way to spend that money.

it gives a better look and has a better beng in the cold air kit from zzp insted of a ribed intake bend that is on the stock air box.also if you already have it and get the down pipe and other mods it will show it is worth it. remember the better it lets in air and release it the better it will run and the better mpg it will have in the long run

At our local Performance shop, they deal with quite a few Monte's and custom make exaust systems & CAI units on premises... Cheers,
