I have a 2003 Monte SS. I was wondering, since im seeing a bit of corrosion on my pipes, if the stock exaust is stainless steel. If its not, has anyone here had problems with exaust rotting out?

 

I am not sure if any of the Monte's come with stainless as a stock option/standard. I have an 03' and all looks good so far, but then again I am in the south and don't have the salt corrosion issues as they do up north.

 

My car seems like it has rust on the pipes also, and I have an '04!. I thought it was the new law though that all exhausts after a certain year had to be stainless b/c of pipes falling off in the streets. I think it just might be the outer coating of the pipes (underbody coat) that has corrosion.

 

no your pipes arnt stainless they are whats called aluminized somthing about impregnating alumnum into the steel kind of like a zinc coating on glavanized pipe it wont rust except for where there are welds but it will corrode in salt and other situations like that the only part of you exhaust that is tainless is you tips if you have them

My exhaust rusted after one winter (salt zone). I bought Dynamax cat back system and painted it with high heat exhaust paint. It's been 2 years and the paint is holding up well. I think SLP makes an exhaust for the 2000-2005 Montes and I think it's stainless. I just bought Magnaflow cat back system that is Stainless for my 05 Mustang and Its starting to get rust spots. The original Ford system was stainless and that had rust spots too. I don't know what's up with that.

 

i have a 2005 with 6600 miles on it..no rust...lol..dont think they're stainless though
