Direct Fit Catalytic Converter by Maremont not for Sale in California 652064 | eBay
does is seem decent? the guy suggested i get a "direct fit" and said it was way better than the weld on type ....... also that he would charge me an hour's labor instead of another $200 since they are easier to put on. what do you guys think ?

I'd rather see you spend your money on this:
ZZPerformance - ZZP Downpipes #ZZ-GPDP
Since the one you linked to, says not for sale in CA, means that the cat on there probably isn't that great and will throw a p0420 code anyway. So you might as well get the good ZZP Downpipe and deal with the code, as opposed to what looks like a crimped steel downpipe that is just as restrictive as stock and have a code.

OP - The pipe you linked to will work fine. Walker and Magnaflow also make replacement pipes that meet OE spec. If you prefer a mandrel bent pipe versus crimped (very slight increase in flow) go with the Magnaflow. I installed a Magnaflow a little over 1.5 years ago and have not thrown any codes whatsoever.
this is the first time it clogged ..... the gentlemen at the auto repair service didnt unclog or replace it ........... all they did was weld it back together ....... so in essence they didnt perform a deserved surgery ..... they just slapped a band-aid the situation and sent me on my way.
Just had a new direct fit cat installed ...... Same violent shaking when accelerating ..... Starts at 30mph - 40mph ..... Smooths out around 55-60mph ..... Picks back up with the shaking at 70mph on up. Very confusing ..... I'm thinking it has zilch to do with the cat. Maybe alignment ..... Also I must note that regardless of how fast I'm going , if I take my foot OFF the accelerator it completely stops shaking.
Maybe misfiring, go to autozone and get the PCM scanned for codes. It could be a lot of things. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, various sensors.
Have you inspected your suspension, lug nuts, wheel bearings, or CV axles?

codes are clean since putting new cat on .......... judging from research , the problem is leaning heavily towards the axles being the culprit as it appears to be the exact same symptoms reported by other monte owners ......... bummer
