SLP Exhaust System...

Talking SLP Exhaust System...

i am buying a '05 monte carlo LT and was gunna put a slp exhaust system on it, anyone have one, and how do they sound? Qaulity? A good buy?

I hate SLP just because of their lack of good customer service, so im biased. I ordered an intake once and had such a hard time returning when they sent me the wrong one. I personally love my Magnaflow setup, havent heard an slp setup in person. go on youtube and do a search for our engine, you'll hear plenty of sound clips

I love my Magnaflows too...but I really don't have an opinion about the SLP exhaust, because i've never really heard them in person.

Amy, AwesomeSS has SLP's on her 05 SS "Silver" you might PM her and see what she has to say!

i have talked with friends and they have had nothing good to say about slp systems, but i found one made by dynomax, that i think i will go after, also because of their industry reputation:

i will surf the net for some sound clips, but i can always upgrade mufflers if i dont like the sound

Your Monte Carlo LT is a N/A setup, not S/C. The SLP system is 2.5 inches, which is decent in size, and fits better on a S/C setup. Dynomax makes an exhaust system that is 2.25 inches, much more fitting for a N/A car, as you will experience no loss in low-end torque.

Also, the SLP system when reved over 3,000RPM sounds ricey, I've cross checked this on youtube, just punch in SLP LM2 for any 3800 car, but it does have a very nice idle, whereas the Dynomax system has a decent idle, decent rev and has no riceness to it at all, check the Sights n Sounds forum, a member has an exhaust clip of her '03 SS (N/A 3800) on rev and idle, sounds mighty fine to me. Getting a downpipe to accompany a Catback exhaust system will also help the note of the exhaust, and power.

SLP's only advantage is for S/C setups, and the fact that it is 304 Stainless Steel, basically lifetime guarantee, Dynomax only comes in Alumnized Steel, not a good idea if you live in an area with salt on the winter roads.

2.5" is perfect for an N/A setup. 3" is for supercharged. You are right in knowing they need different sizes, but that's the better guide. Just like the downpipe. 2.5" for NA, and 3" for S/C

So is a 2.25 inch set up too narrow? Or does it not make much of a difference? Also, I thought I'd heard the SLP Powerflow system is a straight pipe design, good for reducing lots of low end torque in a N/A V6 car, but better suited on powerful S/C set ups or V8's.

2.5" is fine either way really for most setups. the only power making difference arguably would be the downpipe.
Unless your 400+ HP turbo setup, your gonna be ok with 2.5".
aftermarket exhausts for our car arent really a performance mod, more of a sound mod. HP gains are minimal at best.

To some degree. IMO depending on what type of res you have, it can restrict your exhaust quite a bit. But like mentioned above, 2.5" exhaust is good for an NA 3800. However, I might hold off until you get more things done to the engine, such as a good set of rockers, or a top swap.

Here is a sound clip of my SLP system on my 05 SS. It is a bit loud in the cabin (cause it only has straight pipes - no resonator) and it does drone a little but I like to hear my exhaust LOL! This clip was before I added the 2.5 down pipe with high flow cat. And I don't think it sounds like rice at any RPM.
