Removing the resonator will not gain you any MPG or performance. It wont give you any problems either. It will however increase cabin drone and raspiness. My catback has no resonator and it does drone alot. I would like to put one back in in the future. I hate the drone.

The only way you'll lose mpg without the resonator is if it sounds so good that you're always flooring it.

It won't make the car any louder, you won't get any gains from it.

The only thing you'll end up getting from replacing the resonator with a pipe is an exhaust leak in a year or two.

Yea....That is all basically what I thought haha. Thanks I just had to check cuz it was weird that all three places said they couldn't or that I shouldn't do it for those reasons. ALAS my search continues for a decent muffler shop. ...and is a welded joint really guaranteed to leak in 2 years like you say nitehawk?

I'm thinking the shops you talked to just want to sell you more stuff. Maybe you should try to find a smaller independently owned shop. Then tell them what you want and get a quote on the price to to do it. If they won't do it tell them you'll take it somewhere else.

Everybody I know that has had just a resonator replaced with a pipe on their stock exhaust system has developed a leak within 2 years. Granted you could put some exhaust wrap around it, but then again why'd you spend the money to get it done in the first place?
