Question Request For CAI & Exhaust Recommendations

I recently bought a 2005 Monte Carlo SS and I'd like to add a CAI & new exhaust system to improve my MC's performance and sound. I'd appreciate some input/opinions on these particular products, or any other products that you'll may recommend.

Other than CAI, exhaust system, and window tinting I'd prefer to leave the car stock. My auto repair/modification knowledge/experience is very limited so please keep it simple. These are some of the products that I'm looking at:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CSE-14181/

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=57-3045

Thanks.

The GMPP cat-back is very nice. It's actually a branded magnaflow system, but not advertised as one, and the 4" tips look GREAT!

As for the K&N... I would actually recommend the Wizaired Intake System (plus it's a little cheaper)

I have the K&N and I bought it JUST for the looks. But the Wizaired is in a full box and will work better and keep cooler.

Also as for stuff you NEED to do. Get yourself a 3" Downpipe with High-Flow Cat and a 304 Stainless Front Powerlog (you can reuse the stock metal gasket)

See the Front Exhaust Manifold, and the Downpipe are HORRIBLE restrictions on these cars. And opening them up with the following items are the best mods you can do on your exhaust system (besides headers) The cat-back will only change the sound.

However, having an 05, does bring up another bad thing. Replacing your Cat with a high-flow is going to throw a code in your car (not guaranteed, but HIGHLY likely) which you would need someone with a tuner to delete the P0420 code, or buy a programmed PCM that has that code deleted.

Also since you are boosted, there is a good chance that (even stock) you have knock happening in your car. Getting these items is a great way to eliminate that knock and have your car run stronger and better.

Also everything I just listed is as easy as undoing a few bolts and putting the new thing on. The CAI will probably be the hardest thing to put on out of that whole list! And even that is VERY simple.

Yea, do a CAI for sure...

I would recommend Magnaflow exhaust, I have them, and love them...they sound good on my V6. I don't know much about the GMPP exhaust, but if it is made by, or similar to Magnaflow, then I would say its a great system!

Thanks for the very helpful replies/info and links.

Does Magnaflow make an exhaust system kit for my '05 MC SS? If they do can someone please provide a link to such a kit. Again, thanks.

Magnaflow is alright if you ask me, but check this out.

Copy and paste that link, it's the sound of a N/A 3.8 on a 2003 Monte Carlo SS, very similar to your engine, with a Dynomax exhaust. You can buy Dynomax from www.3800performance.com or www.pfyc.com. The whole cat back system costs just $450. Dynomax or Borla produce the best sound for the 3.8 I think, I'd put Magnaflow in 3rd in terms of how well it sounds. But Borla costs $1,000 for the system, and $300 per muffler, bit pricey. For a CAI definitely go with the Wizair CAI that you can get from www.zzperformance.com The CAI plus cone will cost you $240, and can probably get you somewhere in the margin of plus 10HP, a downpipe is also essential as chibiblacksheep mentioned, they will reduce knock, and improve your engine's capability, a few people will note that a downpipe will help increase the tone of your car, making it slightly deeper and a tiny bit louder.

I think I found the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust kit I was looking for. Their product number is 16729. I came across several web-sellers listed it as coming soon or no price listed (presumably because it isn't in stock) , before I came across one that has the kit listed for $687.00.

http://www.directtuning.com/store/pc...tcat-back.aspx

http://www.hottexhaust.com/Chevy_Pon...nteCarloImpala

http://www.autocarparts.com/part/1704/614/

Does anyone here have this exhaust kit on their MC, and if you do are you satisfied with it? Would you'll recommend this exhaust kit. Thanks.

Here's the magnaflow system you want.

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=12498617

(it's not listed as one, but when you buy it, the stainless steel resonator, mufflers, and tips all say Magnaflow)

Honestly though, you should start with the CAI, Downpipe, and PLOG

Just throwing this out there if you want to save a few bucks.....

I essentially created my own cat-back system through an exhaust shop, and I only have $400 invested into my exhaust...

I started with factory single output exhaust...went to the exhaust shop, and had them replace the factory resonator with a 14" Magnaflow resonator, and then put dual magnaflow mufflers on it, with chrome angle cut tips out the back...This replaces everything that a cat back would replace, except for the factory pipe but cost less...

Now I don't have a problem with rust at all...if your factory exhaust is rusted, I would go for the catback system...

Thats a GREAT deal for a Maganflow catback system, they are noramlly $600-700 bucks!
