Mostly I want this system for the sound, but is there any power gains to be expected by slapping this new exhaust system on a completely stock N/A 3.8? Any gains at all? What I'm looking for in this mod is a small gain in both performance and a nicer sound to it, just minimal gains, but I want to be sure they'll be there for the price I'm paying.
IMO thats not the route I would go with that kind of money- its a lot of money to spend for practically no gains.

If you want a change/increase in sound- I'd just stop by an exhaust shop and get some new mufflers and tips welded on. You can get this done for less than half of the full catback price- and you still get the nice sound change. Power gains will be very minimal either way, since thats not the bottleneck in your exhaust at this point, so you may as well go for the cheaper route if you're just looking for a sound change.

After that, I'd build a FWI (or a home made CAI)- pick up a K&N cone filter for $50 and some tubing- and go to town. That will also give you a nice sound change as well as a little HP in the meantime.

After that, I'd probably look into a downpipe because of how restrictive they are at the U bend.

You'll probably be out of money at that point anyways, but at least you'll get some more bang for your buck.

did you notice much of a deference when you put in the 180? sounds like a cheap good mod
Gains from this are pretty minimal- however, those in colder states may want to think twice before doing a 180 (or 160 thermostat)- you need to keep in mind that since the engine's coolant is running ~15* cooler than stock, that your heater temperature will drop by roughly the same amount (also keep in mind that you don't get 100% heat transfer to the air passing through the heater core- thats why your heated air coming out of the vents is drastically cooler than engine coolant temp). A 180* stat is still liveable in the winter (my old 99 gtp had a drilled 180) but it takes a bit longer to defrost the windows and such.

Not really. It's more of a cumulative mod, but still one of the cheapest to do.

really if ur wanting a diff exhaust do a custom one i copied Corsas exhaust & used my Super 44s & its not bad did it all for 200 rather than spending 1100, & prob gained just as much, but like most have said its not the way to go for the money if u want alot more power

Like everyone else has already mentioned. Exhaust alone is not the way to go if you're looking for more power.

I saw a noticable gain (although, not drastic) by putting a CAI AND Exhaust. But you can get pretty much the same gains, and sound out of your car by doing a custom exhaust, and that is MUCH cheaper than the cat back set up.

ER Ratio (split ratio) rockers are better for N/A.

And about the 180 in the winter... boy am I feeling that more than ever now that it's single digits!!!!

It's lukewarm at best

Thats exactly what he means. If your t-stat is running the cooling system cooler than it was designed for, you can expect heater performance to be less than normal.

IMO, the "gains" seen by this are not worth the loss of heat (not complete loss, just not near as warm).

Ok, true point. But on a pretty much stock 3.4L like Trewyn15 has, I would say its a waste of warmth in the cabin! :P
