Default Nice mpg from K&N

So I just got back from about 2,000 miles of windshield time and this was the first time I'd looked at the mileage since I added the K&N CAI and U-bend delete.
Both mods had been in place about two weeks prior to the trip.
Bottom line: 24.4 mpg over 90,000+ miles before; 28.9 mpg over 2,000 miles after. I'm very happy.

That's an amazing improvement. Great endorsement
for K & N, plus u-bend delete.
Was the increase mostly highway miles, or a combination
of city/hwy miles ?
How were you driving your Monte ?
easy - average - hard ?
Thanks for sharing your information on your mod's

After installing my custom CAI with a K&N filter I noticed an immediate difference in MPG. The first time I drove the car the MPG steadily increased, and I gained about 3 MPG just in city use alone. I wish I could drive for 2,000 miles straight though and see if I could get the increase you got.

This last trip was about 90% highway, so if you drive more city it might be less for you. It is a valid comparison, however, as this car is our long distance cruiser and at least 80-90% of all of it's 92,000 miles has been highway. Since I've owned the car I've always had 3 to 5 minute commutes (walked to work for two years of that) and generally use our truck for short trips around town outside of work, so the car is almost exclusively a cruiser.
As for driving style, I'd say I drive it fairly hard - I accelerate quickly, reach speed limit plus ten and stay there; on the open road (many miles from any towns), I'll often push it a little harder. If anything I'm perhaps slightly more aggressive since the mods, but I still try to keep it reasonable.

I put my K&N CAI on after only 2 weeks of commuting, almost 1,300mi at 22.5mpg, and went to 24.5mpg. The u-bend pipe is real close on the list. I made a post previously claiming that I saved $478 at $3/gal of gas, over 48,000mi, which almostpaid for itself DOUBLE. I'm a believer.

HA HA!!! Check out my mods below. I went from mid Wisconsin to 1 hour south of Indianapolis over the weekend. 14 hour trip and racked up just shy of 1000 miles. I reset the MPG just to see what I could get and pulled off 29.8 MPG.

you go 80-85 in town?

well, I know my LS has decent milage... I drive it hard, no sense lieing about it, and I still get a good 400 miles to a tank in town and a good 600(ish) with it on the highway. of course, the only time Ive been able to really test the highway was driving to south dakota where I go to college. I was bucking a strong cross/head wind the whole time, so I rounded up a bit.

I don't think I get good milage at all in my Monte. I'm always putting gas in it. Even when I take small trips you can look at the gas gauge and see that it went down since you first got in the car. I don't know though. I accelerate pretty fast so.............
