Magnaflow exhaust cat back

Hi Everyone I have a 2007 SS monte carlo and I was thinking of getting a Magnaflow exhaust cat back. I wanted to know if anyone here has one and are you happy with it?

Also do you loose any torque?

I really don't know if I should bother with it, if it doesn't make a difference in sound or preformance over the OEM. Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks
Tony

I really want the Magnaflow cat-back as well. I suggest that you take a peek at the forum below. It is dedicated to our engine and has a lot more performance information.

i have a magnaflow on mine...but mines a 2002 ls with a 3.4 so idk if this will help, but i noticed a definite change in performance and gas mileage.

RE: Magnaflow exhaust cat back

Ok I just bought and installed the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system. In one word WOW.
It sounds 1000 times better than the stock system, and I can definitely feel the power at the higher RPMs. It has a really nice deep bass sound to it. Now it sounds like it really does have 300+HP under the hood.

I should have done this last year, If you haven't got one yet DO IT, you won't regret it trust me. When I started it up and heard the new exhaust I was very very surprised at just how good it sounded.

Love it.

Congrats. It looks GREAT! Get a sound clip up and post on YouTube or something.

I actually decided to go the cheaper route and get two Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers installed. With Flowmaster tips it should be around $225 shipped.

This is how she should sound...

Do not get me wrong, this is a great forum... But there is absolutely NO love for the 5.3 guys over here it seems. I just had to put that out there! lol

RickAKATed10
Thanks I really do love the new exhaust system.

That sound clip sounds great, are you going to keep the resonator or replace it with a pipe? $225 ships is a good price.

I'll post some more pics too.

Hey Rick Once you get it in you will be driving around with the radio off just to hear that awesome sound. Good luck

What do you base your statement/post on ?
What post/statements makes you believe that there is no
love for the 5.3L V8 ? LOL
I know that I love them, just can`t afford one : )
I have not read a members post that stated they did not
like the 5.3L V8 ?

RE: Magnaflow exhaust cat back

TonySS2007,
I will be leaving the resonator on. The whole system will be stock besides the mufflers and tips.

I will most definitely be listening to that exhaust for a while before turning the radio back on once it is installed this spring/early summer. I will also probably get awful gas mileage. lol

KidSpace,
I just do not see many posts or memebers that have the 5.3L V8 Monte Carlo on this forum. I mean, I know they are much more rare than the earlier generation, but it is just more difficultto find information about my 06 SS. If i need any information for my engine I have to go over to LS1tech forums. Which is not a big deal, but I just wish there were more contributing members with this engine.

RE: Magnaflow exhaust cat back

the reason why there isnt any 5.3l v8 on the forum is because there awfully expenceve from the dealer expeccially when you go get one from one who is selling one there worth it byt the caughst of on just to the basic stuff is a little more than the v6 3.1 3.4 3.5 3.9 motors dont get me wrong i love me to have the ss model but there way to high to get if there more resonable like the lt ls models and the ltz models every one would get all three not just one type like the v6 the v6 are under rated like the v8 but my dad got the ss model the 7th gen like i have he is ticked that i am neck and neck with him and were basicly stock mine is lt his is the ss both are funamital so no probs just hope that chevy will be around as long as it has for my dad back in the 60's when he first drove a chevy camaro

TonySS2007- Congrats on your new Magnaflow system! If I had seen this thread earlier, I would have recommended that you check out mad717's video of his Magnaflow exhaust for his '06 Monte SS on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fR64...e=channel_page
He doesn't have the whole cat-back system, just the mufflers. Mad717 is a Monte Carlo Forum member, btw.
I'd seen the video of an '06 Impala SS (same engine as your Monte) on Magnaflow's website, and I LOVE that sound. Thinking about putting their cat-back system on my '06 3.9L, but I don't know if it'll make enough difference on my engine to be worthwhile. I haven't seen any clips of any Montes with the 3.9 and a Magnaflow cat-back.

TonySS2007 03-20-2009 07:42 AM

Thanks for the link MyFirstBowtie, I appicate it.

It really does sound 110% better than the OEM system.

montes my python 03-21-2009 09:08 PM

Tony, beautiful job on the install! Those band clamps work great, don't they

Mikhail Tomasovic 05-10-2009 03:19 PM

man there is nothing wrong with the 5.3L, i drove the 08 impala ss with that motor yesterday and i love it! very powerful, and in the impala it got up and went! i prefer the six cylinder supercharged motor though :)

john213la 05-10-2009 10:52 PM

does any1 know if it effects da car when it turns into a 4cyl on da 07 monte????

TonySS2007 05-11-2009 08:08 AM

John,
By effect the car what do you mean?
It acts the same if you ask me, Its just quieter in 4cyl mode.

john213la 05-11-2009 10:26 PM

cuz i just put some flowmaster 40 serious n it sounds nice on v8 mode but in 4cyl it sounds kinda weird for me!!! n feel a lil more power too

SSilver 05-12-2009 08:27 AM

I also have the magnaflow catback system on my 2006 SS and I LOVE it. I am particular on how I like my V8 cars to sound and have spent plenty of $$ in the past on dozens of different systems on different cars (Camaros, T/A, GTO, Mustang), and this is by far one of the best sounding systems I've heard on an otherwise stock vehicle.

4cyl mode does not sound like a 4cyl, but somehow gets even deeper(?)...My favorite sound is at the mid-upper RPM range. It sounds insane for a bone stock 5.3l V8 in a front wheel drive car. Sounds a bit like a high revving big block...sort of

mavrickf1613 05-13-2009 05:59 PM

I like to Live and Learn the Hard way,

When I did my flomaster exhaust, I did it for sound, Now that I drag race more, wish I did a Full Cat Back,

So yea when I could afford it I would purchase the Magnaflow full cat,

Its all nice and shiny too :)

I should stop modding and just through in the 5.3 v8, One day when my car needs a new engine lol hopefully not too soon

There will be a 10hp gain with a full cat back

the difference is we are running 2.25inch pipes to our mufflers when the full cat is 2.50inches to the mufflers for more air flow out, meaning more Horse Power

Thats the main reason to do it and I hear it will help by a tenth of a sec or two of drag times

RickAKATed10 05-14-2009 10:44 AM

Any dyno sheets for before and after certain mods, such as the Magnaflow kit and the K&N intake? I'm curious.

TheMonteMan 05-15-2009 02:06 AM

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/d...andprixgxp.jpg thats from magnaflows site for the grand prix gxp.

RickAKATed10 05-15-2009 10:05 AM

Nice. I wonder if that was a supercharged one or a newer LS4 one. Probably Supercharged since the URL has "02Product" in it.

TheMonteMan 05-15-2009 02:24 PM

Hmm i didnt notice that but it does say gxp and it is next to the part number for an 08 gp gxp perhaps its a typo on there part?

SSilver 05-15-2009 04:29 PM

TheMonteMan - what wheels do you have on your SS? I like them...alot ;)

TheMonteMan 05-16-2009 06:41 PM

theyre the alcoa wheels off of a gxp but there the 18x7 all the way around

SSilver 05-16-2009 07:56 PM

I knew they looked familiar...they look nice on your car :)

TheMonteMan 05-16-2009 11:14 PM

thanks. im looking to drop it. i still have the original ones thinking about stripping them and really polishing them well see.

RickAKATed10 05-18-2009 10:00 AM

Those are really nice wheels.

TheMonteMan 05-18-2009 11:07 AM

thank you sir. did you do the exhaust yet?

RickAKATed10 05-18-2009 11:19 AM

I bought everything, I'm waiting for it to come in. I'm going to actually have it all welded instead of clamped. Every shop I called quoted me $120 to do the job. That doesn't sound too bad.

TheMonteMan 05-20-2009 06:15 AM

you need to put up a video once you have it on there.

RickAKATed10 05-20-2009 09:40 AM

I shall! The mufflers came in yesterday and they're small... lol I didn't think they'd be so small. It's weird compared to the large stock one. I'm going to get some high temp paint and paint them tonight. My tips should be on the front porch waiting for me too. I can't wait for Saturday morning.

Does $120 sound reasonable?

TheMonteMan 05-20-2009 11:13 PM

that was 120 including the mufflers?

AwesomeSS 05-21-2009 09:50 AM

Ya, when I took off the stock exhaust from the 05 the mufflers were twice the size of the aftermarket ones LOL! A nice way to shed the pounds heeheehee!

RickAKATed10 05-21-2009 10:01 AM

Those quotes were just welding. I already have the mufflers. However, I called another place and they quoted me $80 for the same work.

Yeah really. I bet those stock mufflers will weight a lot. The Summit Race mufflers are pretty light.
The tips came in yesterday too, and WOW! They look awesome. They're going to fill in the cut outs on the bumper perfect. I'm stoked!

MAMONTE 05-21-2009 10:33 AM

Both $80 and $120 sound reasonable to me......of coarse $80 sounds better.

Also, I know you said you are only putting the mufflers, but you may want to consider putting a new resonator if your not getting rid of it. I started by keeping the stock resonator too, and later decided it did not have the sound quality I was looking for with the stock resonator, yet I still wanted it calm on the highway, so i had a Magnaflow resonator installed....WAY better, sounds 100% better now, and is slightly loader too, yet calm on the highway just like I wanted! The stock resonator has loovers in it, and is 18inches (at least on the V6) and the Magnaflow one I got is 14inches and uses the same glass pack way as Magnaflow mufflers...anyway, just a suggestion, but you can always go back, and delete/ add a different resonator later if you decide!

Word of advice, before you leave the muffler shop, or place your getting it welded, make sure to really check out the way it looks from the rear...mainly are both tips sticking out the back equal lengths, and are they centered properly. When I had my exhaust done, I didnt really look at it before leaving, and my tips were off center, and one stuck out further than the other, so I had to have it re-done, because I just could not live with it like that once I realized...Everything about my car HAS to be PERFECT, or i'm not happy! :D

RickAKATed10 05-21-2009 11:06 AM

Thanks for the tips MaMonte. I'll be leaving the stock resonator on, for now, and I will definitely look over everything with an extremely careful eye before I go any where. My car must be perfect to...
