K&N vs. Cold Air Inductions
for the K&N, IMO you pay for the name pretty much, and yes the heat shield is a joke! the whole setup seems cheap (isn't everything plastic?) except for the filter. i will admit that K&N does build a good filter.
go with the CAI, insulated AND sealed aluminum box all the way around. IMO i think the CAI box looks better under the hood too. i think the prices are similar too.

I agree with everything said above. I have the K&N, and it IS a great filter! BUT, the heat shield IS a joke. Even with the cover I made for mine, my IAT is typically 12 deg HIGHER than ambient temp, which to me shows me that the metal shield, which DOES get hot, is CRAP!
Summary:
K&N makes a good filter.
K&N makes a poor heat shield.
Buy something else.

Could try getting something like this and cutting it up and using some 3M double sided tape to secure it. I'm willing to bet this would keep the heat away from the filter.

Once you start adding stuff to the heat shield of the K&N you are just killing the look of the system, besides there are tons of large GAPS in the K&N that will still let heat soak to get through.
Well I guess I'll see that as soon as mine comes in. I'm about to pull the trigger on one.
Oh yeah, I can't wait. I had an Injen CAI on my 3.0L Stratus R/T Coupe and loved it in combination with my muffler delete. Sounded mean with NO rasp at all.
