go with the CAI, insulated AND sealed aluminum box all the way around. IMO i think the CAI box looks better under the hood too. i think the prices are similar too.
the heat shield on the K&N is metal.

ok thanks MonteMan, i stand corrected. i'm not tryin to knock anyone with the K&N system, i just think you get more for your money with the CAI brand sysetm.

personally if i had to do it over again i would just make one myself. i dont think theyre worth the money, and they can certainly be made for less.

I agree with everything said above. I have the K&N, and it IS a great filter! BUT, the heat shield IS a joke. Even with the cover I made for mine, my IAT is typically 12 deg HIGHER than ambient temp, which to me shows me that the metal shield, which DOES get hot, is CRAP!

Summary:
K&N makes a good filter.
K&N makes a poor heat shield.
Buy something else.

Could try getting something like this and cutting it up and using some 3M double sided tape to secure it. I'm willing to bet this would keep the heat away from the filter.

Once you start adding stuff to the heat shield of the K&N you are just killing the look of the system, besides there are tons of large GAPS in the K&N that will still let heat soak to get through.

Well I guess I'll see that as soon as mine comes in. I'm about to pull the trigger on one.

Oh yeah, I can't wait. I had an Injen CAI on my 3.0L Stratus R/T Coupe and loved it in combination with my muffler delete. Sounded mean with NO rasp at all.
