Default K&n cai

My Question is about the K&N CAI, I was thinking of getting one and I wanted to know if anyone has one already and do they really improve HP and response of the car?

Also if you have one on the 5.3 engine do you also have a tuner?

I have a 2007 SS with the 5.3 engine. I just put in the Magnaflow exhaust and I can really notice a difference, so I wanted to take it tot he next step witht he CAI, but I'm just a bit skeptical.

Thanks
Tony

It's easy to do and works wonders. Makes everything sound better too. Granted mine is on a 2000 SS, but more air is still more air.

As far as being tuned, I don't think you'll need to tune afterwards. Yes it can always help, but the car should monitor the air intake and adjust accordingly.

I really doubt you can feel the HP difference from an intake alone. I'm not saying its not a worthwhile mod- but its just not enough hp change to make a noticeable difference. For all those people that claim to feel these big power differences before and after- I wonder how many would still realize it if it was installed without their knowledge.

They would definitely hear it at WOT / turning the car on while it's cold out. I think they would notice you installing it. I agree that you don't necessarily feel it though.

Oh, I'm sure the person would hear it- I just mean, if a person were totally oblivious to the fact that something so minor was installed (ie intake, exhaust work, etc)- if they would really be able to tell the power difference.

Thanks I spoke to my friend that has a GN and he told me that it will increase the air flow and by itself will not do much but as you add more and more mods they will all add up like a ant hill every little mod will add up to gain more HP and Torque.

So with the new exhaust the CAI will complement it very well.

So I think I will get the CAI

One small mod for me one gaint leap for my SS. LOL

After you install it, take a couple of pictures and explain how it did not throw any codes. My dad has a 2006 SS and he was reading in his manual that installing an intake will screw up the computer and mess with the car, and I tried to explain to him that it won't, but he won't believe me.

He installed one on his truck, and helped me on my car install, but won't do it for his 06 SS... silly parents...

Yeah no problem,

I'll take some pics and post them here, and let you know how it goes. Tell your dad to get an Magnaflow exhaust for his 2006 I can't say enough about that exhaust system what a difference it made to the car. I really wise I did it a year ago.

Glad to hear you're happy with the Magnaflow cat-back. I'm going to go the cheaper route and just do mufflers and tips.
