Intake project I am working on
 

I got an intake from a truck for free so I am planning on shaving it to make it fit. I have done a lot of measurements and thought about how to make it work. I plan on relocating my MAP sensor and PCVs. I am trying to track down an ls2 or ls7 throttle body and ls7 MAF. I picked up an alternator bracket off an Impala SS that will need to be cut.

I have had bad luck getting a 3 bolt to 4 bolt throttle body adapter so once I track one down that works I plan on getting some Holley EFI fuel rails with braided lines.

It should be a fun little project. I will update as I get farther into the project. I am just waiting on that adapter then I plan to tear it down. I have been short on time with Christmas lately.

Sounds like a neat custom project (and I love seeing people do some old fashion custom work out of their garage). Keep us updated with pics and progress :)

for sure. I am hoping to start cutting and plastic welding towards the end of the week or weekend. I got an xlink 8-6 pin throttle body adapter so it should all be plug and play. Really eager to get this project rolling :)

Since I have not really followed LS engines, what's the inspiration for making this swap? I assume it has bigger openings to allow more air into the engine? Or is there more to it?

Well the stock intake manifold is really terrible. The inlet is necked down to 40mm to clear the oil pressure sensor. Usually people swap ls6 intakes in but after some research the lq4 should make more power. Ls6 is about 400-450 bucks whereas I got this intake for free.

People have seen gains of 26wph with an ls6 with throttle body and maf... With nothing else. With headers it should be more so I am curious to see what I will be able to make after this lq4.

I don't see why not. I mean it will be fairly cheap and if all else fails I can always get an ls6 or ls2. I should have before and after numbers too which will be nice.

I got just about everything cut off the top of the intake tonight. I am saving the MAP and PCV for last until I find where to relocate them once it is in the car. I plan to plastic weld maybe on New Years day.

Just get the generic 76mm truck throttle body man, anything bigger won't do anything for you since the opening on the intake is only 76mm.

I think it needs re pinned and won't work with my xlink. I might just use stock for a bit until I decide what I am gonna do. I know for sure it is going to mocked up with my ls4 tb and maf. Depending on if I find a good deal on something will be the deciding factor. Trying to keep it cheap.

If I could find a truck throttle body to mess with I would try to get it to work though. Would be really different then .
