Exhaust options for a 5th gen
I have heard we have kind of a bastard child W-body and most GTP and 6th gen MC parts don't fit. I'm starting my L67 top swap and want to address the headers. Speed Daddy makes a really good and cheap set-up but I have heard they require some extensive hammering to the fire wall to fit. Am I limited to a ZZP power log and 3" DP? Thanks in advance.

For what it's worth, headers are really worth it on these 3800's. I say pound or cut the firewall to make it fit. Plogs aren't really worth anything, and I've heard that there are problems with them however some say the problems are resolved. Problems such as the welds giving on them.

I disagree Zipper. I think PLOGs are a huge improvement over stock when it comes to exhaust flow. Have you ever compared a PLOG side by side with a stock manifold? The difference is night and day.
There ARE big problems with them leaking- these are easily resolved by having them rewelded for $20 by a local shop. The mild steel ones are most known to leak- the 304 stainless ones (like the one I have on my Regal) isn't known to leak.
I (and others) have also had problems with them sitting too close to or contact the A/C compressor.

You're actually correct that they are an improvement over stock. I meant to say that compared to headers they aren't nearly as good of an option, unless you plan on going turbo. Then it actually would be a good idea.

No turbo for me, I'm just looking for the easiest and cheapest way to make a fun to drive SC 3800. I'm just about to do the swap so it's go time on hammering the body or not. How much room is needed? Is it a huge amount or just a little clearance?
Zipper, what system are you running.

How wild do you want to get with your setup?
The PLOG/3" downpipe combination is pretty damn effective for most people- there's a guy on ClubGP with a Gen V/IC/cam/N* setup running high 11s and trapping high teens on a front PLOG, STOCK rear manifold, and 3" downpipe.
If you want to get really crazy with your car (nitrous, Gen V/IC/small pulley, cam, etc) I'd probably plan on making headers somehow fit. If your planning on simple bolt-ons and not going any further, the PLOG setup may be your ticket.
It's really a matter of what your goals with the car are.
