7th Gen ('06-'07): exhaust opinion

exhaust opinion
I have a 2006 SS and I want to put on custom exhaust. I'm thinking about just deleting the resonator, leaving the cat, and putting new mufflers on. I want it loud and mean but not annoying in the cab while going down the highway.

I have been through all of this at one time haha. Here are some videos of mine at different times to maybe help you out. I honestly don't mind a little drone but these cars are so mellow at highway speeds IMO you have to do a lot to make it "annoying"
Magnaflow catback (not much different with res delete honestly)
Hogan catless downpipe No res to Magnaflow Mufflers
Same as above but a drive by
Open OBX headers
drive by with OBX headers, Badlanz cutout, no res, no cat, and Magnaflow Mufflers (drive by with the cutout closed and open)

Your best bet is to just go on you tube and search for a sound you like
Just a thing here, you can not have it Loud and Mean without it droning a bit in the cab
My opinion here:
The best Exhaust i have heard on a LS4 is SLP Loudmouth 1 mufflers with the resonator out.
I have Spintech Pro Street 6000 mufflers with the res out

Thanks for the videos. I like the sound of MnteCrlo SS47's. I was wondering how much drone you have when going down the highway. Also, how do you guys think glass packs would sound on our cars? My brother thinks I should go this route and save some money, which I agree with the money part because I am just a college kid. Thanks for the help.

Glass packs would be cheaper but you get what you pay for and the sound isn't really all that great. I have heard it drones like hell as well.
If you are gonna get the work of taking the res out anyways, save up for a good set of mufflers, I'm quite happy with Spintechs Think you would be as well

I'm running the MagnaFlow cat-back system - everything else exhaust-wise on the car is stock. It's a bit louder and a deeper tone than stock but not obnoxious in the cabin while cruising, however you definitely do know it's there.
Tadd (Tadcaster) is running the same MagnaFlow cat-back system on his but also has DT Headers and a Tune.
Tadd has at least a few videos of his - I do not have any of mine.

Like Matt, I too have the Magnaflow catback only. I have this system on my 07 and also had one on my 06. I have had dozens of exhaust systems on several different cars over the years, and the sound this setup produces is second to none. Lots of deep, powerful sound coming from a fairly small V8.
After listening to many LS4 sound clips, I've come to the conclusion that almost any aftermarket exhaust will reveal the lovely tones this engine produces. Very deep and not raspy like other LS engines
It is a personal choice when it comes to exhaust. Just do what sounds the best to you within your budget...
