Default Downpipe? Anyone?

Does anybody know if there's an aftermarket downpipe option for the LQ1? I got a 96 Z34 and my exhaust needs some TLC and I'm lookin into pricing. I can't find a downpipe to save my life so I'm wonderin if anyone even makes one for this motor. If you know let me know please, sharing is caring

This here is about as close to an aftermarket downpipe that you will find. I believe its the same size as the stock downpipe but without the silencer and it has a magnaflow cat.

Awesome... That's pretty much what I'm shootin for, it's not 3 inch but it's a start. $220 though? Really? Do you have any experience with this part? Do you know how it sounds, any extra power? You get where I'm goin with this....

I havent seen anyone who has used this downpipe but I dont think its worth the money. You are basically paying 220 bucks for your stock downpipe minus the silencer. I doubt you would get any power gains with it. It would be louder but not really a good loud, just raspy compared to the stock one. I wouldnt waste your money on it. Is anything wrong with your stock one? If not I would just leave it alone. Maybe see if you can get an exhaust shop to fab one up for you if you really want a DP.

Yeah it's pretty rusted out and there's a hole in front of the silencer, behind the silencer, in front of and behind the cat, and the flange is pretty much gone. One of these days I'm gonna catch it on somethin and the whole fricken thing is gonna get ripped off. The reason I wanna go to 3 inch is for the deeper sound, then all the way back is gonna be 2 1/2" with dual 3" tips. Not much reasoning with local shops about pricing either, f-ers

If you want to go 3" you will either have to make it yourself or have a shop do it for you. 3" is kinda big for our engines. A 2.5" is more than adequite. I think just going from a 2.5" press bent DP to a mandrel bent one will be benefitial to flow. You may feel a difference in performance but probably not much. I dont think you will want to go 3" because our cars are hurting on low end torque as it is and you will only be making it worse.

Well if you intend on going with the L67 then you may be able to use a 3" DP behind the LQ1 and then use is when you do the engine swap. Im not sure if the DP is different between the LQ1 5th gens and the L36 5th gens. If they are the same routing you may be able to use the same DP for both. If not, then I would just wait until you swap engines to do exhaust work.

Unfortunately they are different... ZZP has one for the 3.4 and the 3.8 but not the 3.4 DOHC

Ahh oh well then. Hey, get going on that L67 swap and you wont have to worry about exhaust for your LQ1 lol. Im sure those fiero guys would buy your LQ1 from you. They love throwing them in the back of their cars.
