I was wondering if getting rid of the cat would be a good idea. I have an l67 with a 3' dp and res delete. Would cat be good idea to get rid of still with res gone too? Does anyone know if it Would it sound bad?

 

Depending in what state you live...you need it to pass emissions.... also it works with your o2 sensors... That's what also keeps your motor running with in spec... Its never a good idea to eliminate your Cat with a computerized system that maintains the proper operating specs!

Rather than deleteing it.... Use a High flow cat... Then its a NON Issue!

 

Our cars actually don't monitor anything with the rear o2 sensor and give data to the PCM. Only the first o2 sensor actually talks with the MAF and PCM.

The rear o2 sensor is only to make sure that the cat is working.

With that said, the car will get a little more raspy, the exhaust will smell, and you will have a constant P0420 code lit.

Will need a tune to turn off the code, and obviously all of the legalities with emissions in your area.

 

What does a high flo cat do that a regular Cat doesnt?

 

They aren't made as well and don't really "filter" as much. They are often just cheaply made to pass the law. They can also trip the P0420 code.

I used to run a high-flow, but it broke and clogged itself after 2 years.

My 97 hasnt had a cat since 2002(current motor has NEVER had a cat behind it) and doesnt throw codes unless its cold and i have REALLY crappy gas in it.

 

I dont know a whole lot about cars but I am learning but kinda on the same subject wouldnt doing a straight pipe make you fail emissions as well?

 

Depends on your local laws. Where my car used to be registered, I didn't have emissions testing.

Now where I am registered we just have visual and computer testing. They plug my car into a computer via the OBD2 port, and make sure no emissions related codes apply (such as P0420). Then when they are looking over the car, they just make sure they see everything that should be there.

I have a gutted cat so it visually is still there, and the P0420 code doesn't trip in my PCM due to tuning.
