cold air intake and exhuast
I have 2 questions. i would like to put a cold air intake on my 98 monte Ls 3.1 V6 but i heard that in the winter a cold air intake robs your gas mileage and that concerns me becuase i live in northern wisconsin is this true. My second Question is i like the sound of a tuner exhuast for my car i have right now in my car a stock single outlet exhuast minus the catalytic converter what do i need to add to get that tuner sound.

RE: cold air intake and exhuast
well adding a cold air intake will not rob your car of gas milage in the winter, i just put mine on a couple of weeks ago and the gas milage is great :)
as for the tuner sound on your car you would have to put a 'fart tube'on the back of the exhaust getting rid of the stock muffler. you can buy those at any autozone or parts store down there, they're usually stainless steel |
RE: cold air intake and exhuast
ok thanks for the tip i was asking about the cold air intake becuase my dad knows someone that put one in a silverado and his gas mileage became worse
|
RE: cold air intake and exhuast
maybe its just because he's still having fun with it and hammering the gas everytime he takes off to see what it sounds like and see how good it takes off :)
i had that problem for a couple days ....lol |
RE: cold air intake and exhuast
I have been looking for cold air intakes and i can't seem to find any for a 98 monte do you know where i can find one for a 98 monte Ls 3.1 V6

RE: cold air intake and exhuast
k&n does not make one for it, so you can either custom make one yourself or check ebay for some on there

wizz wut kind of exhaust do you have?
|
RE: cold air intake and exhuast
its all just custom, i went to an exhaust (one of my customers) and he did the downpipe, got rid of the u-bend, and i gave him a high flow cat to put on it(universal) and he got rid of the resonator off of it. all the stuff he took out he just replaced with stainless steel straight exhaust pipe

RE: cold air intake and exhuast
with the 5th gen montes. 95-99 you can opt to move the battery to the tunk or get a smaller battery and slide it forward and run tubing from the maf to the fenderwell with a 9 inch generic or any kind of cone filter to the fenderwell. z34phoenix has a great writeup and pictures on how to do it. they dont make any intake kits for the 5th gens. the ebay kits are just a small pipe with a filter on the end which just sucks hot air up from the engine bay. with a fwi it gets colder air from the fender right behind the right headlight which is better for the car. well good luck with it

RE: cold air intake and exhuast
the best way to get cold air if you have the room is to make something custom that goes down the bottom of the front air dam, mind you, you'll have to clean the filter a lot more, but you'll get a lot of cold air coming in through there :)

RE: cold air intake and exhuast
whoa i never knew you could move the battery to the trunk of the car
|
RE: cold air intake and exhuast
actually if you relocate the battery to anywhere inside the vehicle (and that includes the truck) it should be a vented battery, or optima(dry cell) battery
if you put a regular battery inside your car you will get fumes or possibly acid leaking just some info for anyone if they're planning on doing this |
RE: cold air intake and exhuast
i got the intake you gave me a link to and it will fit a 3800 series engine not a 3100 seriesbecuase there is no place for the map sensor do you have a solution for my problem
|
RE: cold air intake and exhuast
im pretty sure your talking about the MAF sensor. the MAP (manifold air presure) connects on the upper intake manifold. give my cardomain site a look and you will have plenty of ideas on how to fix it! the writeups are on pg 6
ok just updated a new picture for it. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...9_404_full.jpg |
