Default Which CAI?

For awhile I was set on the K&N CAI, which on a stock 2000 Grand Prix S/C shows a 13.37 HP increase, however I have a 2003 Monte SS, 3.8 N/A, no supercharger. And plus the price of $300 seemed a bit steep. But on www.zzperformance.com they sell a Wizair CAI, and it's only $200, I read all 33 reviews, it seems everyone thought it was a pain to install, but were pleased with the results. And the Wizair is an enclosed airbox where K&N isn't. The only thing is all these guys that wrote reviews were S/C, I'm wondering if I can expect the same results as N/A. Does anyone know anything about Wizair and how well it works on the N/A 3800? Is it better than K&N?

I've got the Wizaired on my Regal. I really like it. Honestly, as long as you choose a decent cold air intake (K&N, Thrasher, Wizaired, JMB) you'll see about the same gains.

I'd save your money and do the HV3 insert or rockers first, though.

Honestly I'd do the CAI + Downpipe combination first. You should be helping the intake and exhausts to unleash some power. The HV3 is a supporting mod, probably one of the last mods that should be done on our NA engine. It keeps your upper RPM power and actually shifts the power a little higher in the RPMs, so if you start shifting your powerband, you'll lose the lower end unless you already had a few mods to help that.

Also slap on a 180° thermostat when you do the CAI to help with temperatures even further.

And don't forget that you will probably be spending near $275 on the Wiz-air when you factor in shipping and the fact that you still have to buy the $40 K&N filter for it. But I would say this, as I say with every other question on the intake questions.

Do you want it to look good, or perform good? Wizair for performance, K&N for looks.

I really don't see the N/A 3800 being held back much in stock form but it's intake tube. I do think that the downpipe is a good choice.

The front exhaust manifold is also a good area of restriction.

But I'm just saying, before you do the rockers and hv3 where you would be pushing the RPM band high and the powerband higher you should a good flow of air in and out.

Ah, I see... That does make sense.

I almost kind of wish I'd done an N/A build, just to see how it would run.

Sorry.

No boost shall enter my Monte's engine. However I am currently saving up for a new toy which would gladly like to get fully modded and play with big boys...
