Default Borla Cat-back finally on.

Today I had the Borla Cat-back installed that I bought from Zippy here on the forum. It definately was not a system that I would have installed myself.

There was one main issue that had to be addressed. On the section of pipe that had the resonator in it, the hanger bracket was pointed the wrong way and too far up toward the resonator so that the factory hanger was not even remotely close. The shop had to use a different type hanger and had to drill into the frame rail and install a long bolt so that the hanger could be used.

Everything else went fairly smooth. I told the guy doing the job that Borla recommends installing the system from the back to the front because at first he was having some trouble. After that, it went pretty good.

He couldn't get the tailpipes exactly the same distance from the bottom of the bumper cutouts but they were pretty close. The right side is slightly lower than the left. Of course my factory exhaust was like that too with the left side being lower than the right. The Borla tips are actually closer to being right than the factory system is.

As far as sound, at idle its barely louder than the factory exhaust. When you start driving it gets a little louder but nothing obnoxious. It is not a loud system at all. The GMPP system is definately louder from the youtube videos I've listened to. I imagine the Borla system will get a little louder as time goes on. Here are a couple of pictures I took of it on the rack with my cellphone.

I guess time will tell if it was worth it or not.

Thanks guys. I measured the tips yesterday the the right one is only 1/4" lower than the left. It really isn't that noticible.

I've had a Borla cat-back on my 98 ext-cab Z71 since 1999 so I've been a fan for awhile now.

Thanks. I actually called Borla yesterday and told them about the hanger issue. The guy I talked to didn't know why the hanger was made like that. He said since this system is also for the cars with the 3400 that maybe they had a different hanger setup. That doesn't make much sense to me because I'm sure most of these Monte Carlo's came with the 3800. The guy was actually going to refund the difference the exhaust shop charged me for doing the extra work on the hanger but I had to email them a copy of the system purchase invoice which of course I didn't have since I bought it second hand off of the original owner even though it was new. So, no refund for me.

What kind of exhaust system do you have on your Monte?
