Default 02 3.8 ss exhaust

Hey guyz i was just wondering what would be the best exhaust as far as performance goes for my car. It has a 3.8L not supercharged.Im just looking for and exhaust that is really good for the price. Alsoive read up a lot about this u bend and how exactly would you go about taking that off. Do the cat-back systems already eliminate the u-bend. Thanks for any replies.

catbacks don't usually eliminate this u bend. you can buy a replacement pipe for like $30, but most any exhuast shop can do it for you for about the same price, and then it is installed and you saved shipping for teh same price. supposebly the best system HP wise is Dynomax, but on your body the exhaust doesnt' really make horsepower unless you pushing about 300 anyway.... so if what you want is sound, then get exhaust. if you want power, look at taking out the u bend, maybe a good CAI or a throttle body.

U-bend delete does make the hp. Also does exhaust, just not over 300hp. It's been proving that a catback does make the power. For sound wise I would go with Flowmaster. Yes Cowboy I know you don't like Flowmaster, but everyone has there ownopinion on what sounds the best. For power probably Borla or Dynomax or some custom work helps. Flowmaster is the loudest then Borla, and Dynomax is a pretty quiet exhaust system. CAI's are also worth the money, Wizarrd or K&N are the best when it comes to that.

well everybody says something different... i haven't felt much of a difference wtih my dynomax system in all honestly. haven't felt a whole lot from the u-bend delete. several people have said the mufflers on the 3.8 from 00-05 is pretty good for up to about 300 with a u bend delete.

if your exhaust is too open you will actually lose hp then again if its too restrictive u have the same problem. when i had a single flow it didnt sound anywhere near as good but it felt more peppy then when i made it dual flows. heard from many respectable sources that the perfect gain for our cars is 2.5" is just about the best if you're running ur mufflers out back. but as im running straight off the cat pretty much now 3" inlet si/do super 44 flowmaster with 2.5" outlets. and duane i could be wrong and plz tell me if i am but isnt the dynomax pretty much a glasspack shaped like a regular muffler? if so then you're probably losing hp as our v6 montes need a baffled system.

a glasspack where the resonator used to be and then 2 baffled mufflers for the back.

I have an unsupercharged (not sure I can spell "naturally aspirated"!!) '02 SS and went with the 2.5" DP and high flow cat along with the SLP cat back system. Definately felt a HP improvement. I think it's well worth the effort to do the u bend delete no matter what system or brand you go with.

well removing the ubend will probably involve cutting and welding, plus you need the pipe. its worth the money to get an exhuast shop to do it.
