What Octane rating Gasoline have you used in your 06-07 SS?
Hello All,
I was wondering whatOctane rating do you use in your 06-07 SS?
I have been using 93 only since I got it a few weeks ago.

If you have used lower octane gasin your Monte did you see any difference? Milege, power?
Did you hear Knocking?

The owner's manual calls for premium fuel ,91 octane.Stations in my area sell 87,89.and 93,although some have 92 instead of the 93.I know any GM car can run on 87 octane,but I figure it isn't worth the $3.00 savings to fill the tank with cheap gas and risk a problem,so I run the 93.Also,a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment at each oil change.And really,what are you going to buy with the $3.00 you will save by depriving your pride and joy anyway??????

it calls for premium, but i've always run 89(mid-grade) but when i get my pulley on i'm gonna have to go to 91 or 93

I can't seem to get the screen up to post my vote, but I mostly use 87 Octane in my 07 SS so add 1 to the 87 list.On a trip, I will sometimes put in 89, or 91 but for the most part, it's 87. I haven't had any issues at all with the 87, she runs just fine. Possibly there would be a little boost in performance with the higher octane, but it's damn fast with the 87. The manual says 87 is OK as long as you don't run into detonation, (run on) and so far I haven't.

I haven't seen 93 octane in Cali for many years. I wonder if they are only sold at specific stations here?

The octane rating in itself doesn't change the performance/hp. It only affects knocking. If you are knocking at 87, then up to 89 and keep going untill the knocking goes away.
For my car, I COULD run 87 but I would have to make sure I NEVER floor it as it would blow the engine. With my mods I need to run 110 Octane to keep it knock free. My knock only shows up at about 4 lbs of boost though at WOT.
To fix this I need to buy a programmer online (hopefully this weekend) and retard the timing a bit. I loose some of the HP gains from the spark advance, but better than loosing the engine.

I have not seen 93 in Florida either. I strictly run 91 nowand have noticed my mpg has risen since I ran 87 the first 3 months. So i figuer the more mpg off sets the cost of the higher octane and is better for my car.
