It's funny you mention this as it is sort of a pet-peeve of mine. On the parts counter I am constantly correcting people. But we all know: an engine creates power and a motor uses it. Inspite this, the industry standard is to say "motor" oil or "motor" mounts. Engine, technically, is the proper word.

Hi Brent, it is also a pet peeve of Member Justin Knight.
He made that comment in another thread, and that is
was prompted me to create this thread.
According to many dictionaries, your are 100% correct
that the proper word is `Engine.
Does that make you a "EngineHead" ?,
instead of a "MotorHead" ?
Would be a kewl Tatoo
Thanks`Brent & Member's for your vote/posts.
It's all in the way each of us have been programed
Who taught you ? Who were your teachers ?
Were they MotorHeads, or Engine Heads ?
LOL ~ LOL
Above is a Engine Head
LOL
And now for some Hardcore Rock&Roll
by the "MotorHeads"
It's the Entertainment for this `Thread : ) LOL

I use both but really try to use engine cause by defenition, a motor is electricaly powered where as an engine requires a fuel sorce. But usually if im talking about it with all the electrical and pumps and such i say engine, but if Im talking about the power plant i say motor.
