Default Trailor Hitch

Im thinking about getting a trailor hitch attached to the frame of the Monte the only question I have is do you think that it will be able to haul a boat? Or what is the average towing weight?

I took a quick look in my owners manual. It's for a 2004, but I believe the info should be the same for your 2002. Here's what it said for weight:

Weight of the Trailer

How heavy can a trailer safely be?
It should never weigh more than 1,000 lbs. (454 kg). But
even that can be too heavy.
It depends on how you plan to use your rig. For
example, speed, altitude, road grades, outside
temperature and how much your vehicle is used to pull
a trailer are all important. And, it can also depend
on any special equipment that you have on your vehicle.
You can ask your dealer for our trailering information
or advice, or you can write us at:

Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center
P.O. Box 33170
Detroit, MI 48232-5170

In Canada, write to:
General Motors of Canada Limited
Customer Communication Centre, 163-005
1908 Colonel Sam Drive
Oshawa, Ontario L1H 8P7
I don't think it'll be too much of a problem. But keep in mind that the transmissions in the 6th gens tend to be a weak point.

i think putting a boat in and pulling it out of the water would be the bad part. I don't think I try it.

I would never tow with this transmission. UNLESS you installed a transmission cooler as well.
