I have finally decided it is time to get me an 85 SS. Have known this was my car for 12 years. Finally in a place where I can get one...

Any things I should be looking out for when checking these cars out?

I know certain areas tend to rust out, but I'm not planning on getting a real project car. Looking for a solid car and willing to pay extra to get a clean one.

Any details specific to this year I should be looking at that I will regret having to deal with?

 

Sounds like a good choice! I'm not aware of any specific rust areas. If just looking for nice solid car, original probably will be in range of 11k to 15k. Are you wanting the 305 stock motor? A lot of people swap them out for something bigger which will increase price a little. Otherwise just check vin to make sure getting a true SS

 

Typical rust areas are floor pans, especially t tops, doors, outer wheel wells and in the trunk by the wheel wells. If you have t tops check the seals, and most likely there is rust around them unless it's been well taken care of.

 

Find one from the south and there should be minimal to zero rust. No idea where you are located but I've been browsing craigslist for a 06 or 07 Monte for my son and have seen several reasonable 85-88 ss listed for sale in nc
