Default Thinking of getting MC

I'm moving and need to get a FWD car for possible driving in snow and thinking I will get a MC, but I don't know for sure which one so I'm asking what are the pros and cons with 3.9 06-07 or 3.8 Supercharded 04-05??

Which one is faster? Will it be better to get the Supercharded 3.8 and does anyone have 0-60 times for either?? Mileage?

It really depends on whether you want to add aftermarket parts to your new monte. there are little to no aftermarket parts for the 06 3.9L and there are almost unlimited possiblities for the 3800 supercharged engine. We dicussed the 0-60 times for both in another thread.....i think we came up with the conclusion of it would bepretty darn close.....

https://montecarloforum.com/m_30141/tm.htm

both have the same hp rating.....240 hp.....do you like the 2006 model or the 2005 model??

I kinda like the front end of the 06 better but I like the fact the 05 and older have body side molding, I hate to have to worry about some jerk dinging my doors!! Also I guess with the SS supercharged the suspension would be a little better in turns? Also since the supercharged has more torque I would think it would get off the line quicker??

yes the supercharged monte would probably get off the line better......the 05 monte is gonna have a little harder suspension (which would be better with cornering). i have a 02 LS and i LOVE it.....i cant imagine what an 05 s/c monte would be like

hey space.....tell her what you like about your 3.9l 06

I don't think the 05's have a body side molding either. You would have to go 2004 or earlier. You can get moldings from GM parts in black,or get them in most colors from this aftermarket vendor.http://www.sportwing.com/

my 05 doesn't have any body side molding, what are you talking about, one of these days' we're gonna have to test a 3.8 supercharged vs a 3.9 and a 5.3, i've got a few mods into mine, so i'd be willing if i found a 5.3 that would like to have some fun

I would get the one you like better looks wise...does a little difference in hp really matter? And if you like modding, it's only a matter of time before theres plenty of mods for the 3.9 as well.

Here is a BIG con to the 3.8SC, They require 92 octane gas, where the 3.8NA or the 3.9 or even the 5.3 run on 87 octane.min. The 5.3 won't get even close to the milage of the V-6's, but man, are they ever QUICK! I bought my Intimidator cheap enough that I factored the extra fuel cost into the cost of driving, and still came out OK. I am currently getting 25.3mpg on a 104mi/day commute. I only got 24.5 with my '01 3.8NA, the difference being thic car has a K&N cold air intake. I only got 22.5mpg when I 1st got it.

Well this has been discussed and discussed.,.. lol On the link there is a ton of info. Read through the whole thing. And as far as aftermarket parts are concerned, they are on their way, Hyperfox just posted a ton of stuff for the 3.5's and the 3.9's. These and the Impalas are really similar as far as parts go.
1st link: benefits of 3.5 or 3.9: https://montecarloforum.com/m_40720/tm.htm
2nd link Upgrades: https://montecarloforum.com/m_45557/..._/tm.htm#45766.

there wwill always be a lot to go back and forth on, on this topic, but thats why there is this forum.
