Swapping spoilers

Swapping spoilers
I have a surfboard spoiler on my monte, and I have read that you can swap them without drilling new holes. Is this true? Also, will I have to have it painted? or can I have the spoiler painted and then sent to me. Also where can I find one of these spoilers?

Depending on what year your car is. I know several '06 owners have wanted to swap the surf board spoilers their cars came with for one of the stand up, race inspired spoilers. These will swap over without any new holes.

You can check online for used ones that people have taken off their cars, or a new aftermarket one.
What I would do is check junk yards. The spoiler your looking for is a perfect fit for Montes from 2000 up. There should be plenty of wrecked 2000 up Montes in junk yards. You may get lucky and find one the right color.
Most sellers leave the painting up to you. Which I think is a better idea anyway. Take it to a local body shop before you install it on the car. The painter should be able to exactly match your paint color. They'll be able to get it done quicker and easier when it's not installed on the car.

Its a 2003 Monte Carlo SS. I dont think I've seen an 03 with that type of spoiler, so Im assuming Im gonna have to mod it now. I can check the junk yards, but I dont know if there are gonna be any in the junk yard near my town

If they have to re-paint, you'll want to plan on spending like 250$... that's what it cost me when I had a spoiler put on my 95 beretta.. That was drilling the holes and everything. Being that you already have holes, it will probably be somewhat cheaper.
You can save some money by sanding off the old paint yourself, then they just have to primer, paint, clear, and buff... lots easier.

The upright spoiler on 2000 to 2005 had 8 holes along the trunk..the surboard had 4 holes 2 at each end
2006 07 were the same both had the same holes in the trunk, the upright and the surfboard....if you have the 03 model then you are going to have to have some holes fill and new one's drill..if you got a 06 07 then surfboard and the upright are the same...go to your chevrolet dealer and have them pull up the picture's of them and you will see what i am talking about..I hate to see you spend time on something that you don't have to...New one's are 512.00 all of them....painting is 100.00 extra.and 350.00 to modify your trunk...most body shops..
