Strange smell and stalling in reverse
My 2002 MC SS. 89k miles. Has a strange “gas” smell. Thought maybe it was using bad gas. But have switched and it never has changed. Car is stalling when I put it in reverse. If I feather the pedal it will not stall. When driving it does “hesitate” sometimes. Check engine light came on, reset it. Did not write it down. I know. Has not came back on

I just Googled "car smells like gas" and this is what I see as common causes:
(1) Bad or broken gas cap (also considered a leak)
(2) Gas leaks - injector leak (o-ring or seal), fuel injection line leak, fuel line leak, faulty canister
(3) Low fuel pressure - bad pressure regulator (this would explain the smell and low power/fuel efficiency)
