Depends where you live, driving conditions, type of driving and so on. My philosiphy if you like the car and its worth it or something you love who cares about gas mileage. I knew I wanted an 00-05 monte and I didnt know what type of gas mileage I would get when I looked into the car. GM estimates 20 city and Ive been doing 25! This car will be with me until it falls apart with fuel mileage like that. Nobody can beat a GM in MPG's!!!!!

If you are worried about gas mileage, you are probably looking at the wrong car. You probably wont break 13 or 14 mpg in the city and probably wont break18 or 19on the highway. And thats givingthe car somecredit.LikeI said, if you have to worry about gas mileage, an old V8 car isnt what you should be looking at.

Yeah as long as you can live with the mileage then the car should be losts of fun. Just be prepared to be on a first name basis with the local gas station attendant. Lol. If the car is in good condition you should see numbers closer to 14mpg city and 19 highway. Is the 87SS a 3 speed auto? If so your highway mileage might not be much better than your city mileage. Overdrive helps alot. Maybe look into one of those bolt on overdrive units they sell.

When my '87 SS had the stock carb on it I averaged 9mpg back and forth to school.[:@] Of course, I was 16 years old, so that doesn't count.

When I put the Holley 600 carb on it, headers, exhaust, and got slightly wiser, I started averaging 12mpg around town. Don't expect really good mileage out of the car, they just don't get it.
