The above test on the 06 Monte SS by
MotorWeek are conservative #'s ~> Times.
I've read other test that were a lot better with
0-60 in the mid fives, and 1/4 mile in in the high 13's.

I think the last Gen V8 SS that is broken in right, and
with a good driver would beat those times 4-Sure.
Thanks Alex for your input & all your contributions...
It is appreciated....

Ya, I believe the big block first gen's weren't as fast as they may seem. Them things are boats, literally. They were 390 HP, but they also weighed 7600 lbs. And like MonteMan said, the tires they had back then weren't at all like we have today. Even if a stock 1st gen SS had decent tires, it still wouldn't run nearly as good as the 7th gen SS, as it is twice as heavy. Now if you reduce the weight in it, and put some slicks on it, then we would be talking. My dad has a 71 MC, and I think weighs around 4k, im not sure, but he has the 454 in it, and 16" slicks, it will run mid 10's @ 126mph. Juice it and he runs high 9's.

As much as i like the 1st gen, I think chevy hit a homerun w/the last gen. They should have continued on a few more.Very nice looking cars.I see now they did away w/all of the SS cars? Why?I dont think they make anything in a SS do they??Malibu,impala???cobalt?.09 was the last of any SS ?? I think??

they make the cobalt SS and the camaro SS. the first gen montes werent really that heavy. only slightly heavier than a comparable big block chevelle. to my knowledge the cars are the same under the body and even use the same trunk lid. montes just a bit longer. should be barely over the 4000lb mark. heavy none the less but far less than 7000lbs. and if it had a ls6 they were underrated at 450 or so hp and over 500tq. i bet they were good for mid flat 13s on a serious tire, the 06/07 cars are faster bone stock, but i wouldnt want to have to drag a tuned big block 70 on my same tire in my 06 even though it might be close.

I would definitely say the 7th gen SS was probably the fastest. And I agree with Space, those numbers he posted for the 7th gen SS are on the slow side. I've seen 0-60 in mid 5's, and 1/4 mile times in high 13's.
