4th Gen ('81-'88): Spring rate when swapping to coil overs in front ?
Howdy there friends, I have been looking at coil overs for the front end on my monte carlo. Right now it runs the stock springs with Air ride shocks.
Very basic. I was checking out the coil over kits and they state to specify
spring rate when ordering .
So being and adjustable suspension member how do you choose the lb/ rate of the spring ? I would like to be able to lower the car a bit but still keep
stable ride for flat cornering.
So how do you choose what is the best choice For what I want ?
Trial and error does not even come to mind on this.
Many rodders have done this so the data is out there.
The car runs a mild 350 w/ iron heads

To me it's one of the most elusive Deer in the headlights looks you get when asked this question. Do you compare to the stock springs ? Too light a spring rate will make the
suspension bottom easier, Too stiff and rock hard over bumps. If your running an LS motor which is lighter than the iron block well what then ? The offset of the wheels
also comes into play here. The MFG's do not give you a chart or any data to make a decision. Just > state spring rate when ordering. So they cannot be held accountable
if you make a mistake and pick the wrong one, Guess what no returns on suspension parts I'll bet money....
