Default Split decision between buying two monte carlos. Help? thanks =]

Hey guys, So ive been on the search again for the past couple of months for my monte. I've come to a few good ones and I have narrowed it down between 2. One is asking for 4000$ while having 21k on a 350, 5k on the tranny (showed me the recent receipts) and the other is an original with 66k on it. The one for 4000$ said his price is negotiable because one of the floor pans is starting to show rust and might need replacing.( how hard of a job is that?) can't they be just cut out and replaced with pans or sheet metal and bolted on and sealed? The second Monte carlo he is asking for 5000$ but hes pretty firm on the price, Im still waiting to hear an email back from him. The first mone's owner is going to go as low as probably 3400$ but here is what he told me it needs. it has an exhaust leak from one of the pipes which he will fix, there is a tiny bit of rust on the back right quarter panel (see pictures), the t tops do NOT leak but the passenger door is starting to sag a tiny bit but he said its from the pin which is a "40$" fix if you do it yourself. Hes going to change all the fluids, oil, spark plugs, and tune the carb before selling it to me.

the first monte for "4000$" is this one 1987 monte carlo SS

the second one that is asking for 5000$ is this one 1987 Monte Carlo SS

i'll upload the pictures now with this post. these are of the first monte for a negotiable $4k.

Don't go for the 4k one. What really got me was the exhaust leak... I wouldn't trust the guy to "fix" it. Especially that. If he doesn't or he does a crap job it's really going to cost you. And on top of the laundry list of other issues it has, I would say avoid the '87. It sounds like he, or somebody who owned it, didn't take very good care of it. You get what you pay for....

are you talking about the 87 monte carlo in general or jsut these 2? The thing is i ONLY have about 4$ to spend right now.. I'm debating if i should just try to find a cheaper supercharged 04 monte.

I would stay away from the one with the rotted floor pans. Trust me you really dont want to get into that project.

If you only have 4 grand, it's best spent on something that's actually worth 4 grand. Get a newer Monte. Parts are likely going to be cheaper anyway even if there's something that needs to be fixed. Don't buy crap just because it's all you can afford. It's worth waiting.

Maybe I'm better off getting a newer one. I do live in New england as well and rear wheel will kill me in the Snow. To be honost I hate the look of the 99 and previous Monte Carlos, the Lumina look. I'd like to save for a supercharged one. Besides the Monte Carlo I was also interested iin firebirds and trans ams because of the v8 which is what I'm really drawn to.

If you like your V8s, go for 02 Camaros. Yeah, RWD, but... worth it

You can usually find 02-03 SS Montes for around your price. I looked for a year to find mine, price and all. Worth the wait.

On a side note, yes, Trans Ams are pretty B.A. also. I approve of your style, sir.

are the 02-03 monte carlo ss supercharged though? All in all I'm looking to drop about 5000 for a car, I can wait and spend more but I have classes again next semester that I have to pay for so 5000 is going to be about what I'llbe looking to spend. Not sure if i can find a good v8 with that. There are a few 87-88 monte SS i have seen going for 4800- 5000 that look pretty clean. Think that'd be worth it?
