Default Something wierd in my engine bay

What's up guys....I was just admiring my 06 LS, opened the hood and for the first time noticed something that looked out of place. On the driver's side strut tower, there is a piece of, what looks like, thin aluminum. It's fairly big and it looks UGLY. I took a picture but my digital camera battery died. I'm charging it now and will post a picture of it later but does this belong there? If so, what purpose does it serve?

Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure if the '04 Monte's have the same piece of aluminum you're talking about. But if so...
Are you talking about the body-colored piece spot welded to the strut tower?
I've circled it in yellow in the pic.

Those are called core supports and they are not welded to the strut tower. They are bolted to it and you can clearly see this in your pic.

Thanks. I was aware of that. There is one spot weld in the top right corner of the circled area however. The rest of it is like you said, bolted.

I was wondering if this was the piece he was referring to. My guess is the piece he's referring to is not on the 04 model.

Taz those core support braces are not spot welded to the strut tower. The brace itself may be spot welded though although on my 06 it does not look like that one in your pic.

As for that metal piece in the pic it looks like a heat shield of some sort.

The spot weld you are referring to is on the body of the car itself.

I was thinking it was some sort of heat shield too but it looks awful. They could have at least painted it to match the color of the car (which I plan to do) and they could have made it a little smoother. It looks like a 5 year old hammered it into place
