General Monte Carlo Talk Talk about the Monte Carlo. Does not have to be your Monte. Can include pics and games.

So Wwhat can you really do to a 3.1L (other than swap it for an L67)?

No white smoke ever and other than a small lose in fuel milage and the hard starting it runs really well. Heck if I want it to it will spin tires enough to smell a little burnt rubber... But I understand there is alot in the l67 swap but really how hard is it? And any idea how much $$$ I'm looking at? Right now my truck is at the top of my list on the rebuild but I have an 86 f250 I'm spending 5.5k on so when it's done the car after I get the wife a new one is what's next on my list so any idea on the $$$ it would take to do a l67 swap?

just keep driving it stock til it dies or you dont want to pay to get the injectors replaced when they eventually go out

Ok I posted earlier but it is not showing up so hopefully this doesn't double post!

Ok so really what am I looking at if I do the l67 swap? Money difficulty?

The car is in my list of projects but the truck is at the top of the list mind you I am spending 5.5k on a truck that is 11 years older so spending a bit of money on the car wouldn't be to bad it would just end up being a couple years down the road... Just trying to get some ideas and I really like the sound of a sleeper car

im not completely sure but i think the trans is compatible with the l67, depending on the year of your monte you may need to upgrade to obdII, which will be a lot of work, you will need the engine harness completely and pcm for sure no matter what year

I think to drop a L67 in a non-ODB-II car, you probably won't have much option but to upgrade to ODB-II.

You'll be looking at the engine, computer, wiring harnesses, and I'm sure a host of other items. I don't know a lot about swapping an L67 into a car that the L67 was not offered on, but I'm guessing the BEST way to do it is have a donor vehicle in your driveway when you attempt it (so as you are working on the swap and find things missing, just pull them from the working donor car).

My car is a 97 Monte not sure if it's obd-II or not I will be honest I'm just starting at looking into messing with this car. I did engine swaps in some older r-wheel drives but nothing in a front wheel drive with this much electronic stuff

Not sure the Monte and the Grand Prix followed along with this. But if they did, the '97 Grand Prix was a goofy year. It was pre-ODB-II (I think they called it ODB 1.5). I know some people on the Grand Prix forums have re-wired and gone to a '98+ ODB-II.

Sounds like I gotta get a trans too! But it's ok I want a quick sleeper car also forgot to ask for now is there a way I can shut off the speed limiter? I hate that it cuts me off and falls on it's face at 109 the wifes old cavalier would do 114

I got a 1990 cavalierz24 with a 3.1 mpfi v6 and what i did for a lil more usable power is i put the heads from a 3.4 on the 3.1 bumps the compression from 8.9 to about 9.6 and swapped the injectors from a 3.4 to m
the 3.1 just have to get a few adapter parts for the fuel. And put 3.8 superchager voil packs on with new plugs n wire got a lil better power change out of it and stripped off ac and power sterring pump to free up power and did a custom exhaust from motor all the way back getting i would say about 185 ft pounds of tourqe and so.e were arou d 150-160ish horse thats without a computer tune for the new heads n injectors
