Only $48 - that's cheap! My personalized plates - contains letters and number - on my 03 cost $54 annually but I had to pay a 1 time cost of $29 replacement fee.
Vanity plates cost $107 annually with a 1 time cost of $29 replacement fee. My RT 66 vanity plates cost me $118 annually.

Yes, exactly. Its around that much here in Ohio. Heck, for plate stickers and a license: $70.00

Personalized tag fees in SC are outrageous too. I can understand a one time fee for making the plate, and then if they issue new ones (SC is supposed to change plates every 5 years) charging again for the additional hassle of making sure one specific plate goes to a specific owner but to charge it EVERY year???
i want a cool name for my car lol
