Default Right Price for 1996 z34

Greetings, my first car was a 1995 z34 that as a teenager I wasted no time in wrecking (after about two months). Now that I am older I want to get another gen5 and make a project car out of it.

I found this one for sale at a local dealer and when to check it out. I feel like they are high on the price. Drivers side door has a dent the size of a dinner plate that needs to be repaired and repainted. The center console needs a hinge, side badges are missing some letters and the windshield trim is off and needs to be reset.

That being said it is otherwise very clean and has only 45K miles. They are asking $5,000 for it. Any thoughts on the price? What would you offer them? Thank you for your input.

Hi `Andrew & Welcome to the MCF
The price seem high with the problems you stated, but the miles are low if they are true. Was it a one owner...Do they have the history on this Monte Carlo ?

Thank you Mike, they did say it was a one owner car. Looking underneath there is no rust other than some on the brake lines. I'm thinking of offering 4,000 out the door to start (including tax & title fee). Have a list of mods I already want to do (CAI, exhaust system, wheels with slotted rotors, etc) so the better price I can get the quicker I'll begin those.

Thumbs up Good Luck

Hi `Andrew & good luck on getting it. It does look good in pictures, but pictures can be deceiving

I hope you take it for a long drive and let it warm up.
It pays to do your homework & research before you sign any contract. This Monte is ten years old and certain parts wear with age, so do you best to really look at it closely...If they have a lift, ask to put it on the rack & check for any leaks, etc. If they don't it would pay to take a place that you could put it on a rack. Does this monte have a oil pressure gauge. If so, see what it reads @ idle.
I hope that you can get it @ the price you can afford. Good Luck & keep us updated

Hi `Andrew, good luck on getting the Monte.
Actually this car is 20 years old.
But usually these are about a $2500.00 car. You can go to Blue Book online and put in all the particulars and that may be of some help.
You should really test drive the car.
Check to see if it wanders when you drive it and let go of the wheel.
Check the Trans fluid and make sure that it is Red and not Brown. Brown needs changed.
Check the tires as well.
Take a look see at the air filter, too.
If you can get it up on a Hoist check for leaks too.
It's always a good idea to have an alignment done after you get the car.
the Console lid is usually broken on all the 5th Gen Monte's. It comes from some one leaning on the lid and putting elbow weight on it.
Good luck

Low miles, but it's still only a 3.4 DOHC, and has dents... You could likely find a 98-99 Z34 with a 3800 for 2-3 grand.

Default Couldn't Resist

Couldn't stop thinking about her, so she is home now. Took the side badges off as soon as she hit the driveway (Z34 badges in the mail) some letters were missing to begin with. Pictures attached, tranny fluid is a nice red, oil is clean, coolant looks good, one tire was low on psi (22 psi instead of 33), starts fairly clean going to put some lucas through her tomorrow. Dent in driver side door wasn't as bad as I thought but still something I'll get a quote on next week.

Center console lid is broken so I am searching for one of those, and a cover for the fuse box on the passenger side under the hood. Not a bad place to start for this project.

Maybe in your area you have a salvage yard that you can visit and find the parts you need to replace. Sometimes they are available on ebay also.
good luck looks like the interior is near mint.
